Instagram is an open platform and a tool for many to establish a business, build connections, or even make a journal out of their daily lives. Although some people keep their accounts public, every account denotes a personal space. While social media has in one way improved our modes of communication, it has, on the other, pathetically complicated it.

Text messages as written letters carry undertones and often cost the receivers a great deal of labor to interpret and construct an appropriate reply. On the surface level, there is nothing practically wrong with reaching out to someone through their DM. However, the intention and consent actually matter, and one must hence carefully take them both into account.

Contrary to the above words, Dave Portnoy, in his recent appearance on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, made a shocking claim.

It’s simple – no one likes to meet and entertain an uninvited guest. And considering the time we are living in, with so many social complexities and rising crime rates, text messages from an unacquainted person could seem alarming. However, when Tyson contested Portnoy’s views on “sliding into” a woman’s dm, the following is what Portnoy told:

“That’s how I met my current girlfriend. Well, that’s just Instagram. Be like ‘hey, what’s up.’ That’s like dating. There’s nothing at the curve about it. Nothing pervy about sliding into a girl’s DMs. I don’t do that tom but no, that’s not weird. Everybody does that.”
It is hard to make out who Portnoy means by “everybody.” Honestly speaking, it may have been a different scenario for Portnoy, but texting an unknown person unnecessarily and against their will could lead to trouble. To say the least, Portnoy certainly got lucky with his DM quest.
