Did Deontay Wilder fight the person who insulted him?

Deontay Wilder was an exciting fighter in the division back then. He was coming off of a victory against Malik Scott and extended his undefeated run to 31-0. However, Wilder’s next fight would not be inside the ring as he traveled to Los Angeles to fight Charlie Zelenoff, who racially abused him and his daughter.

During the gym fight, Wilder gave Zelenoff a fighting chance as he wore two right-handed gloves. However, to no one’s surprise, Wilder pummelled him while continuously talking to him. Additionally, Wilder made Zelenoff sign a waiver for the boxing fight to take place to prevent him from later suing the boxer.

Later on, the heavyweight boxer explained his actions in an interview with ESNews. He said, “He took it to a whole another level. One thing I don’t condone is racism and he brought racism to the table. He [talked about] duct-taping my daughter’s mouth. It upset me and then he said he’s gonna kill me, murder me.”

Deontay Wilder was on a winning streak throughout his career until he went toe-to-toe against Tyson Fury. In one of the most iconic trilogies in boxing, Fury dominated Wilder in each fight. The first fight ended in a controversial draw and Wilder retained his title.

However, in the rematch, Fury turned the tables on Wilder as he knocked the American in the seventh round. Similarly, the third and final fight followed a similar pattern as Fury knocked out Wilder in the penultimate round. Since then, fans haven’t witnessed the Bronze Bomber in the squared circle.
