The loud mouth Adrien Broner squared off against Blair Cobbs last night at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida in a 10-round welterweight bout promoted by Don King. Going into the fight, ‘The Problem’ had all the confidence in the world, but things quickly changed when the fight started.

Having threatened Cobbs with gun violence during their press conference for the fight, Broner got dropped in the second round, lost his mouthpiece three times and some sources say even lost a tooth before losing the fight via a unanimous decision. However, the biggest karmic justice came when Broner refused to accept his loss, captured on camera while leaving the ring.

After the fight ended, Elie Seckbach from ES News tried to cheer up Broner as he was walking back to the locker room with utter defeat on his face. Seckbach said, “Aye, Proud of you Adrien”. To which the former world champion turned and said, “That n**ga did not beat me, bruh”.

Clearly, Broner’s mind was somewhere else during the fight, as the judges scored the fight 97-91, 96-93, 96-93 all in Cobbs’ favor. What makes this loss even worse for Broner is the fact that Cobbs was coming off a two year long break from the sport. Even though Broner got back up from the knockdown, he remained gun shy for the rest of the fight, afraid of what Cobbs’ counter would do to him.

Unlike his opponent, Broner is coming off a unanimous decision win against Bill Hutchinson in June last year. Many even thought that if Broner won, this could be his ticket to big money fights, but that’s unlikely to happen anymore. In the meantime, Blair Cobbs remained humble after his win.

Despite training with Calvin Ford, Broner failed to do anything extraordinary during the fight. Yes, he landed a few shots on his opponent, but absorbed twice the amount, failing to get any momentum throughout the fight. During the post fight interview, Blair spoke about the fight. Cobbs was nimble throughout the fight and never let his guard down even for a moment. With a grin on his face, he landed repeated blows on the head and body of ‘The Problem.’

“On my vision board is very few things… But one of the main things on my vision board is this fight”, said Cobbs. Later, reflecting on Broner’s knockdown, Cobbs added, “He survived a lot of big blows after getting knocked down”. It’s unlikely that there will be a rematch, but anything is possible with enough money.

This loss could very well mean Broner’s retirement from boxing, but he is stubborn and may appear in a few more fights for the money at the very least. What did you think of the fight? Do you think Adrien Broner was robbed?
