Thirty-six years old social media influencer Andrew Tate has been placed under house arrest. The move comes after the Romanian law enforcement authorities arrested him and his brother Tristan Tate on charges of organized crime and human trafficking on December 29, last year. The brothers had already spent three months in detention and filed an appeal challenging the police’s request for extending their detention by another thirty days.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal gave a verdict favoring the former kickboxer-turned-social media influencer and his younger brother. As a result, the brothers would now be under house arrest. The ruling came into force effective March 31, lasting till April 29.

Why was Andrew Tate released from jail?
On December 29, last year, Romanian law enforcement officials detained Andrew, his brother Tristan and two other women. Post their twenty-four-hour pre-trial detention, a judge approved the anti-organized crime department’s appeal to extend their detention by thirty days. As per Romanian laws, pre-trial detention lasts up to six months or 180 days.
On January 20, the pre-trial detention of the brothers got a one-month extension till February 27. The Romanian court’s ruling came into the light to shield the ongoing investigation and avoid the risk of any abscondment from the Tates. The Court of Appeal rejected his subsequent request dated February 1, challenging the decision.

On February 21, his detention received another thirty days’ extension per a Romanian Court’s ruling. However, on March 14, the court turned down his bail appeal. In the meantime, his pre-trial detention received an extension till April end.
The brothers’ March 29 bail request also met rejection. But a day later, the Court of Appeal finally gave a decision concluding their pre-trial detention. They would, however, be under house arrest till April 29.
As per Mirror, Tate’s spokesperson informed, “We are ecstatic to announce the Romanian judicial system approved Andrew’s and Tristan Tate’s appeal against last week’s extension decision. They will be placed under house arrest while the investigation continues. We are appreciative of the judge and courts for allowing the brothers to return home. They will continue to fight to clear their name of these fabricated accusations; however, this is a big step in the right direction.”
