Sunny Edwards became the IBF Flyweight champion two years ago and has held on to the title ever since. With the recent title defense against Andres Campos in June coming his way, roads opened for the Sutton, London-born champion, to take the next step towards title unification. WBO Flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez and WBC Flyweight Julio Cesar Martinez were options. Finally, the newly inducted Matchroom stable will face the WBO champion on December 16 in Arizona. The two met for the kick-off press conference on September 21. Now, much to the delight of most fans, they tested each other’s skills in table tennis as well.

Clips of the ping-pong showdown have been going viral since yesterday. Most followers lauded the efforts to build a rapport between fighters outside the ring. But a few, probably old-timers, felt these were gimmicks, softening the boxers.

Listen to the fans: they want more of these

The following user wished the boxing matches could have been more along the lines of such friendly table tennis exchanges that closely resemble a sport and not a war.

The following user also appears happy to come across such visuals. It’s always great when men can support one another outside the ring. Either way, once December rolls around, both will get down to serious business.

Echoing almost similar lines, this fan, too, seems to support the idea that it is excellent when men get along outside of competition once the bout is over.

But the following user doesn’t seem very happy. Taking up the recent friendly exchanges between undisputed champion Claressa Shields and Sunny Edwards, the user said the latter’s upcoming rendezvous with Shields may not go well.

Finally, the following fan seems utterly disappointed with the clip. He’s not sure what’s wrong with today’s boxers. He believes that they have become very gentle with their opponents.
