Today, the entire boxing world dodged a bullet as a bear nearly took a chunk out of Devin Haney. ‘The Dream’ Haney is coming off a massive win over Regis Prograis to close out 2023. It helped Haney become a two-division champion and the WBC super lightweight world champion. He is also in the talks to potentially face Ryan Garcia, but that nearly became a moot point.
In a recent turn of events, Haney visited a zoo, trying to feed a big scary brown bear. However, the situation almost turned sour as the bear tried to bite him, only to be saved by intervening zoo officials. Initially, the 25-year-old boxer shared the clip of the incident on his Instagram story but was later picked up by Boxing n BBQ as they shared it on X (formerly Twitter).

In the clip, Haney is captured kneeling on one knee as he feeds the brown bear that appeared to be calm at first. However, out of nowhere, the bear decided the treats weren’t good enough. So, the bear went for Haney’s knee. Luckily for Haney, the zoo officials quickly stepped in to rescue the champion by pushing back the bear’s snoot. However, that’s not the only reason Haney has recently captured public attention.
‘The Dream’ doesn’t dream of being the fighter of the year
In the span of the departing year, Devin Haney went up against Vasyl Lomachenko, winning the fight via unanimous decision. Later, he climbed up to the 140 division to take down Prograis, getting crowned the WBC Super lightweight champion. Meanwhile, his dominant performance against Prograis made him the prime contender for the Fighter of the Year award.
