Oscar De La Hoya was backing Canelo Alvarez to become boxing’s maiden undisputed super middleweight world champion against Caleb Plant on November 6. The Golden Boy Promoter, who was present at Las Vegas in person, saw Alvarez create history before a stacked MGM Grand Arena.

The P4P king scored a sensational TKO in round 11 to snatch Plant’s unbeaten record and the IBF world title. On his fourth fight as a free agent, Alvarez reportedly bagged $40 million in one night.

That said, he may never need a permanent promoter to stage successful events any longer. However, his former promoter, De La Hoya, may still want to take him back. Post the fight, De La Hoya connected with FightHype.com and expressed all his love for the Mexican star boxer.

Oscar De La Hoya said, “I loved it. I loved the way he [Canelo Alvarez] did. He didn’t steamroll before the knockout obviously Plant, which I was very impressed by Plant. But Canelo, he is the P4P champion of the world and so what he did that night was history and I am very proud of him, very happy for him.”

The departure of Canelo Alvarez from the Golden Boy Stable happened on a vile note. After failing to receive what he was promised, Alvarez filed a breach of a lawsuit against DAZN and De La Hoya. It urged both sides to get into a verbal banter.

Things went to such an extent that De La Hoya even called out Alvarez for an in-ring scrap. But the current scene cites the relationship to have seen some progress.

Will we ever see Canelo Alvarez join hands with Oscar De La Hoya again?

31-year-old Alvarez has several more years to see as a pro boxer. He is already one of the richest active boxers of the time. As of now, he is working pretty well as a free agent, hopping into several promotions to grab variant matchups.

After working with Eddie Hearn for three fights, he went under PBC to seal a scrap against Caleb Plant. Alvarez can come back to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Promotions once again.
