Vasyl Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. are all set to square off against one another in the boxing ring. Weeks after Bob Arum and Kambosos Jr. publicly revealed an ongoing deal with Lomachenko, sources have confirmed a date and venue for the bout.

As Devin Haney moved up in weight class to become the WBA Super Lightweight champion on December 9, he decided to vacate his titles at 135 lbs. As a result, ‘Loma’ will now fight ‘Ferocious’ for the IBF Lightweight title.

In a recent conversation with Fight Hub TV, promoter Bob Arum declared they were trying to finalize a title fight between Lomachenko and Kambosos Jr. at 135 lbs. At the same time, the 92-year-old informed the people that Top Rank had already made considerable progress regarding Kambosos Jr. vs. Lomachenko and looked forward to having the bout in April 2024. “I believe that fight will happen sometime in April in Australia,” told Bob Arum.

Although Arum offered a potential date, he could not deliver a venue for the fight. However, weeks after Arum’s declaration, Mike Coppinger from ESPN has now confirmed when and where the bout is happening. As per the sources, ESPN reported that Lomachenko will face George Kambosos Jr. on May 12 [May 11 in the US] in Perth, Australia. The duo will battle with the IBF Lightweight title on the line.

Kambosos Jr. is excited to fight Lomachenko in his country

Both Lomachenko and Kambosos Jr. have remained the unified champion at 135 lbs. However, while Lomchanko lost his belts to Teofimo Lopez in 2020, Kambosos Jr. defeated ‘The Takeover’ in 2021 to become the unified champion in the Lightweight division. Meanwhile, both fighters were defeated by Devin Haney. While Kambosos Jr. lost against Haney twice, Lomachenko lost to ‘The Dream’ in only his last bout in a controversial decision. Anyway, both fighters have impressive records in the sport. Likewise, Kambosos Jr. vs. Lomachenko will be a treat.

In this regard, while the deal was still in process, in an interview with The Ring, ‘Ferocious’ announced how thrilled he was to face Lomchenko in the ring. “It’s exciting and great that there is so much interest in such a mega fight between myself and Loma,” said Kambosos Jr. “Wherever this championship fight lands it will be a sellout and a spectacular fight between two warriors,” he added with conviction.
