There seems to be a big fight in the making! After Vasyl Lomachenko absolutely destroyed George Kambosos Jr of late, Gervonta Davis wasted no time in challenging him to a fight. Despite doubts about his age, ‘Loma’ controlled the pace of the fight throughout and dropped ‘Ferocious’ twice in the eleventh round before finishing him via knockout.

Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis is in training camp for his fight against Frank Martin, scheduled for June 15 at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Though Martin is among the best, many, including Davis, think the fight is as easy as they come. So, Davis hopped on X today to call out ‘Loma,’ and received a quick response to his challenge.

Vasyl Lomachenko never backs down from a challenge

Hours earlier, reacting to a fan’s claim that Davis should never fight the Ukrainian legend, ‘Tank’ Davis wrote in a now deleted tweet, “He’s after Frank..let me get Frank first.” According to Draft Kings Sportsbook, Davis is -575 favorite, while Martin is a +400 underdog, so maybe Martin might not be as challenging of a fight for Davis.

Nevertheless, talkSport editor Michael Benson quickly highlighted Lomachenko’s response to Davis’ callout. Benson wrote, “Vasyl Lomachenko on Gervonta Davis calling him out: ‘You know, during my boxing career I’ve never run around and I’ve always taken fights. After I rest a little bit, we can talk about the future.’”

Davis’ upcoming fight will see him enter the ring for the first time since a win over Ryan Garcia in April last year. Whereas, if this potential ‘Loma’ fight happens in 2024, it will be Lomachenko’s second fight of the year after his loss to Davis’ rival Devin Haney in May last year. Meanwhile, Bob Arum has named three potential opponents for Lomachenko.

Right after the fight during the post fight press conference, a reporter pressed Arum about Lomachenko’s next fight. The Top Rank CEO quickly came up with three names for the Ukrainian to choose from, and all of them are quite exciting. “Well, the idea here in this sport is to win the belts and win all four belts. So, you can take an inventory. ‘Tank’ Davis is fighting Frank Martin, and it’s a good fight and we’ll see who wins that fight,” said Arum.

“[Emanuel] Navarrete fights next Saturday in San Diego, which is going to be on ESPN for a lightweight championship. If he was the 130 lb champion, now he’s going up to 135, so he’s a possibility,” Arum continued. And finally, Arum said, “Shakur Stevenson is fighting in July in Newark, defending his WBC title, so he’s a possibility.”

While nothing has been written in stone, if any of the fights Bob Arum mentioned become a reality, fans will have an exciting night to look forward to. However, Gervonta Davis has a hurdle named Frank Martin on his way to get closer to the Vasyl Lomachenko fight. What do you think? Will this fight ever get made? Or is it just the hype talking?
