The lightweight division in boxing is easily one of the most exciting ones right now. With charismatic champions, capable challengers, and veterans still in contention, it is heating up. And now, former lightweight king Vasyl Lomachenko has taken a swipe at current WBC champion Devin Haney.
Lomachenko and Haney appeared to be on course to face each other. However, after winning the WBC belt, the WBC promoted ‘Hi-Tech’ to Franchise Champion. As a result, they did not meet. And in recent weeks, they have engaged in several verbal battles. Now, ‘Loma’ has hit out at ‘The Dream’ and called Teofimo Lopez undisputed.
The 14-2 boxer spoke to SNOWQUEENLA on YouTube and discredited Haney’s achievements. He said, “For me, Teofimo Lopez is the undisputed champion. Because [when] I fought with him, I hold three belts. I won WBC belt with Luke Campbell, he [Lopez] win this fight with me and took three of my belts.”

Why is Vasyl Lomachenko backing Teofimo Lopez over Devin Haney?
The credibility of Lopez’s status as an undisputed champion has been a topic of a lot of debate. While Haney has told Lopez he will never be undisputed without fighting him, ‘The Takeover’ is adamant that he holds all the belts. Moreover, other fighters and even WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman have had their say.

However, it is no surprise to see ‘Loma’ back Lopez. His explanation makes complete sense. Lomachenko held the WBC regular belt, and the WBC upgraded him to Franchise Champion. If not for that, Lopez would have all four belts with no question.
Moreover, Haney is often referred to as the ‘Email Champion’ since he got the WBC belt without beating a champion. Therefore, the credibility of his title is also in question. However, Lopez’s comments made it very clear whose side he is on.
