“I’m dumbfounded,” Frank Warren summed up his frustration about what he saw this past Saturday. For him, the fight was a foregone conclusion. Tyson Fury fought a close fight, and the British promoter believed he had done enough to edge out Oleksandr Usyk. But that wasn’t the case. As soon as the announcer read out the scorecards, a wave of shock gripped him.

Fury, 36, lost the title fight to Usyk, 37, where he started strong and his jabs did wonders. But the unified champion assumed control of the fight in the middle rounds and finished strong, as reflected in the unanimous scorecards of 116×112. But Warren didn’t believe so. In the immediate aftermath of the result, he spoke to TNT Sports and pointed out how other promoters also believed the same.

The Queensberry lynchpin pointed out how everyone in the front row believed ‘The Gypsy King’ had done enough. That also included Usyk’s management, which, according to Warren, had long faces. He said, “I’m calm and collected. I’m not screaming and shouting. That is a nonsense. Everybody along that front row there, including, and their places were long and highest, as the management of Usyk.”

The 72-year-old also roped in Oscar De La Hoya in his argument, as he explained how the American promoter also had Fury winning the fight. He continued, “Everybody along the front had him winning. Oscar De La Hoya and I had him winning by three-four rounds. We’re sitting there. That’s Oscar, and he’s a neutral.”

That’s not it. Eddie Hearn also had expressed on his X handle that he had Fury 6-5 up going into the final round, and after the fight’s conclusion, he was giving it a draw. However, that’s not how the fight unfolded, at least to the judges and some pros, such as Shakur Stevenson. What about Usyk? How did the Ukrainian fighter take Warren’s scathing comments?

Usyk, at 23-0, hilariously pointed out that Warren needed an eye test. He declared in the post-fight conference, “Uncle Frank, I think [is] blind. If Tyson says it’s a Christmas gift, OK, thank you, God, not Tyson. Thank you, God. Thank you, my coach, Yuri, thank you, my coach, Kuba, thank you, my team. Listen, Frank [is] a crazy man, I think. It’s, in my opinion. OK, no problem. I win.”

So, what’s next for Usyk and Fury now? While Usyk still has a couple of options—fighting Daniel Dubois or going back to cruiserweight—Fury is not that fortunate. The Manchester native could be heading towards his retirement fight. He could finally give fans a British showdown with Anthony Joshua, a fight that might come 5 years late. But it remains to be seen what call he makes next.
