Chris Eubank Jr. has started his fight night rituals with a massive L! And now, he is hearing about it from Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn, the promoter of Conor Benn. If you tuned in to watch Friday’s weigh-in, the 35-year-old came in a minuscule 0.05 lbs heavier than the stipulated 160 pounds. This, of course, landed him in trouble.
The Englishman had to pay Benn £375,000 (or $500,000) fine, and that’s not even counting the £100,000 ($130,000) penalty he paid earlier in the year for smashing an egg on Conor Benn’s face. Regardless, while Eubank’s blunder might be minor, Hearn has lashed out at him majorly in a recent interview with Boxing News.
“What is this?” he demanded from the public. “Feel sorry for Chris Eubank day? Are you going to feel sorry for Conor Benn when Eubank’s a stone heavier than him in the ring at Tottenham tomorrow?” It appears no one’s going to feel sorry for Benn because Saturday morning’s weigh-in is in, and Eubank has weighed 169.4 pounds.

Nonetheless, Hearn continued, “You’ve got a job to do. You are the middleweight champion of the world. You fire 160 pounds, and you couldn’t make it, and no big deal.” Hearn claimed he is not asking Eubank not to get paid, but branded the situation “Unprofessional, expensive.” While Hearn decided to highlight Eubank’s extra 0.05 lbs, Benn’s former rival has raised a question about his ability.
Chris Algieri has doubts about Conor Benn in Chris Eubank Jr. fight
Chris Algieri has expressed doubts about Conor Benn’s chances against Chris Eubank Jr. when they meet at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Benn is moving up to middleweight for the first time, and Algieri, who was stopped by Benn in 2021, questions whether he can overcome the size disadvantage.

What’s your perspective on:
Does Chris Eubank Jr.'s weight blunder show a lack of professionalism, or is it blown out of proportion?
Have an interesting take?
“Benn’s going to come out of the gate blazing and look to catch him early,” Algieri told BoxingScene. “Does he have the power to get rid of the bigger guy early? He’s shown in his last two fights [that] he doesn’t.” After Benn’s positive drug tests in 2022 and mixed performances at junior middleweight, Algieri has shifted his prediction.

“When this was first announced in 2022, I favored Benn,” he said. “But since the drug allegations and the two performances since, I would say Eubank is most likely to win, on points.”
That said, it appears Eddie Hearn is not happy about Chris Eubank Jr. because of the 0.05 pounds extra. However, could this be the beginning of an excuse in case Benn loses the fight? Do you think it was that big of a deal?
