Some folks like to keep their mouths shut and let their actions speak for themselves, but Lamont Roach Jr.? Not so much. When it comes to trash talk, rivalries, and all that smack, Roach’s not one to sit idly by—especially when there’s unfinished business. Silence? Yeah, that’s not his style. He’s ready to talk the talk outside the ring and let his fists do the rest inside the ring.

As Roach prepares to square off with Gervonta Davis on March 1st, the hype is real. These two go way back to 2011 when Tank got the better of him in two amateur matches. A lot of folks think Roach is just another stepping stone for the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, but if you think Roach is quaking in his boots, you’ve got another thing coming. His latest post on X says it all. He’s not planning on just playing the role of a punching bag on fight night.

Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr find themselves in a battle of the rhymes

It all began recently when Roach dropped a Valentine’s Day bomb on X for his long-time rival. He wrote, “Roses are red, violets are blue, March 1st sounds like AND THE NEW 🥰” — meaning that it’s all but confirmed that he will defeat the WBA Lightweight champion, thus crowning himself the new… Did Gervonta Davis take it well? The answer is, No.

The reply came within 10 minutes of the original post, with Gervonta Davis spinning his own twist on the old rhyme. However, like always, he removed it soon after. What did he say? He wrote, “Roses are red, violets are blue, March 1st sounds like ‘don’t worry baby…you’ll be home soon’ from the hospital, mf!”

Boxing n BBQ, a page dedicated to boxing, captured the exchange and posted it on X with the caption: “Tank and Roach giving each other Valentine’s Day poems! 3/1/25 getting close 🥊.” However, the WBA super featherweight champion wasn’t done with the exchange and sent a last shot Tank Davis’ way before ending it. “Don’t worry he was high… that’s why he deleted it he knows that’s f–kin silly.,” the 25-1 boxer stated in his reply.

Underdog Roach promises to bring the “smoke”

While talking to Fight Hype in New York, Terence Crawford recently critiqued Gervonta Davis’ competition and implied that Roach doesn’t have the toughness required to survive against Tank. “They might have a little skills here and there. But mentally wise they not going to be able to keep it up that whole fight,” the 37-year-old added. While Crawford suggested that fighters like Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis might be the ones to bring Davis his first loss, Roach doesn’t see himself as a walk in the park for Gervonta Davis.
