Former unified lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez has never been known to mince words while letting his thoughts out. In fact, he recently made a rather interesting statement about his fight against George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. Meanwhile, the current undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney also shared his thoughts on Lopez’s statement.

The Takeover‘ faced Kambosos Jr. at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 27, 2021.

Lopez was in an interview with Max Kellerman, host of ESPN’s ‘Max on Boxing‘. In conversation, he spoke about Kambosos Jr.’s decision victory during their fight. Lopez said, “When it comes to a split decision, you really have to beat the champion, man. I don’t think he did enough.”

Moreover, he further added that he was the greatest fighter of his era. Lopez mentioned, “I still believe that I won the fight. Whether people call me delusional or not, I am the greatest of my time and my era for that reason. If that makes me delusional then so be it.”

Haney was quick to notice Lopez’s statement. In fact, over a series of tweets, he called Lopez out for his statement.

He specifically mentioned that Lopez has not changed at all. And, that it seems like he has become more ‘delusional’.

Ryan Garcia takes a dig at Teofimo Lopez

Ryan Garcia is currently basking in the glory of his victory against Javier Fortuna. Moreover, he has been on a quest for a fight against Gervonta Davis.

In an interview with ES News when asked if he would pursue a fight with Lopez or Vasyl Lomachenko. Garcia responded by saying, “I think Loma is an easier fight than Tank and Teofimo beat Loma.”

Additionally, Garcia further mentioned, “Loma is not big enough for me. That’s why I wouldn’t do it. Teofimo, I knock him within 5-6 rounds.”

In fact, he was very sure of stopping Lopez ‘very harshly’.
