Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are scheduled to fight on April 20 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. However, Garcia’s social media activity in the past few weeks may have put the fight in jeopardy. So, Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, has come to rescue the much spoken about fight!

Earlier this week, Garcia hosted an Instagram live for his followers, where he revealed that The New York Boxing Commission has ordered him to pass a mental health evaluation in light of his tweets. It didn’t sit well with the Victorville native as he condemned the move. However, Garcia’s promoter has taken a different approach as he provided a mental health update for his star fighter while appearing in the live stream of the Zepeda-Hughes fight. The same was shared on social media today by Mike Coppinger from ESPN.

Speaking about Garcia’s mental health and his upcoming fight against ‘The Dream’ Haney, Oscar claimed, “Ryan Garcia… He’s in great spirits. He’s working his a** off in the gym.” Turning to Garcia’s erratic behavior on social media, the head of Golden Boy Promotions suggested, “Don’t mind the posts, that takes like five, 10 seconds of his time. He’s working hard every single minute of the day.”

It’s worth mentioning that ‘King Ry’ and Oscar have seemingly patched things up! Even Garcia’s beef with Bernard Hopkins, the top brass at Golden Boy, saw its end during the kick-off press conference for the Haney fight.

So, to save the Garcia vs. Haney fight, Oscar suggested Garcia is fine, and the fight will go as planned. While Oscar has reassured everyone about Garcia’s mental health, the Victorville native has other plans for the New York Boxing Commission.

Ryan Garcia seeks justice!

Yesterday, Ryan Garcia seemingly shut down his X (formerly Twitter) account, but not before an Instagram live. During the live stream, Garcia revealed the NY Boxing Commission’s demand! However, it did not end there. Garcia proceeded to claim that he would sue the board for defaming him because of his rights.

“I am [going to] sue NYC commission… [I asked them] ‘What [are] your premises for the mental evaluation?’ [They said] ‘your tweets and posts,’” Garcia revealed. Reflecting on the situation, he said, “So, [I said] ‘Is it not my US constitutional right to have free speech?’ Now, you [are trying to] mess with my constitutional rights. Now, I am [going to] sue you for the defamation of my character.”

As the days pass, things point towards all of Garcia’s shenanigans online being a promotional tactic. Despite that, experts and fans are extremely worried about the Mexican-American boxer, so Oscar’s statement about Garcia should come as a relief. Do you think Garcia should fight Haney in April?
