Dreams do come true if you work hard enough to manifest them into reality. For 25-year-old undefeated Irish boxer Paddy Donovan (14-0, 11 KOs), this sentiment hits close to home. Preparing for his third fight in 2024, the Ennis, Ireland native, recently found himself in the spotlight for an unexpected reason.
A school essay from his childhood, unearthed by Boxing Media, has gone viral—capturing the essence of a young boy’s aspirations that have now become a reality. Donovan, trained by former middleweight champion Andy Lee, is rumored to return to action on December 13th in London against an opponent yet to be revealed.
He is also said to be on a collision course with Belfast’s Lewis Crocker for a date yet to be announced but some sources say it could be in March next year. Regardless, in his last two outings, Donovan defeated Lewis Ritson and Williams Andres Herrera via stoppages, which has made him a quick-rising prospect from the land of the Irish.

Coming back to Donovan’s school essay, the 25-year-old shared it back in May on his Instagram account, with the caption reading, “Kid that followed his own Dream… Tomorrow night the Dream continues.” The story he went on to write in the essay, forced Boxing Media to bring it into the spotlight seven months later.

“My name is Paddy Donovan,” wrote a 7-year-old Donovan in shaky, scribbled handwriting. “I am seven years old, I go to school in the CBS. I live in Ennis. There are five children in my family. I like boxing and football. When I grow up I will be a boxer.” Today, of course, Donovan has achieved his dream, proving hard work and determination can do wonders.
In the meantime, the animosity between Paddy Donovan and his rival Lewis Crocker is starting to heat up.
Lewis Crocker promises to show Paddy Donovan what a real fighter can do
Lewis Crocker has vowed to expose Paddy Donovan’s limitations when the pair clash in Belfast on March 1. Crocker, confident and battle-tested, believes Donovan, despite his talent, lacks the grit needed for high-stakes fights. “I think he’s a bit of a pretty boy,” Crocker said. “He’s never had any adversity at all in fights. For the first time, he’s fighting a proper fighter, and he’ll find out a lot about himself.”

Crocker, fresh off a win over Conah Walker, dismissed Donovan’s call to stage the fight in Limerick, labeling it a sign of weakness. “I’d fight him in his back garden. He’s in no position to call any shots.”

The Sandyrow puncher also criticized Donovan’s struggles against lightweight Lewis Ritson, adding, “If he’s doing that, I’d fancy myself big time.” Crocker is determined to prove he’s tougher, stronger, and a class above his Limerick rival.
With that said, it seems Paddy Donovan has realized his childhood dream, but the path ahead for the 25-year-old prospect is lined with challenges. The true test lies in how far he can take his ambition to become a boxing great. What are your thoughts on his journey so far?
