The whole Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney ordeal can now be officially turned into a blockbuster movie. On May 1, letters from VADA sent to all parties involved revealed ‘KingRy’ tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance ostarine for samples collected before and after the Haney fight last month. However, on Monday, Garcia requested his B-Sample be tested to prove his innocence.
According to a report from ESPN, Garcia’s attorney, Darin Chavez, has revealed on Tuesday the B-Sample will be analyzed and tested on May 22 in his presence. Interestingly, Garcia’s A-Sample also tested positive for 19-Norandrosterone, but Chavez suggested that substance was absent in a report received on Tuesday. So, to proclaim his innocence, Garcia hopped on X today. However, his post received a scathing response from Devin Haney immediately.

In his tweet, Garcia wrote, “So [you all] realize I didn’t fail the tests now. No substance other [than] this imaginary [ostarine] substance. Level so low wouldn’t have any effect…” However, soon after Garcia’s tweet, Haney crashed the party, sharing his two cents on the matter. He wrote, “Levels high enough to test positive.. obviously it would have an effect.. u dirty b**ch.”

It’s worth mentioning that if the B-Sample produces positive results for the performance-enhancing substance, Garcia’s suspension is inevitable. Not only that, the fight can even be ruled a no-contest and Haney’s undefeated record will be restored. Whereas, if the B-Sample comes out negative, he will not only be cleared of the allegations, but it will also show the convoluted and arbitrary testing process.
However, the question remains, what exactly does ostarine do? The essential way this drug works is, it attaches itself to proteins in an individual’s body while signaling muscles to grow. In boxing, it can help a fighter increase weight and gain muscles while losing fat. The drug has been banned by WADA since 2008, and in 2022 it was promoted to an anabolic agent. Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Devin Haney has spoken out about Garcia’s positive tests.

After the adverse findings came to light at the start of this month, Devin Haney appeared in an interview with Stan Verrett from ESPN’s Sports Center to discuss the situation. When asked about his thoughts on Garcia’s positive results, Haney quipped, “Whoever got caught doping and admitted it? I think it would have been the first in history.”

Later, when Verrett questioned Haney about a potential rematch, the 25-year-old boxer said, “…As of right now, it wouldn’t be a [rematch] that I would entertain. This guy showed his character. He showed that he would do anything to win, including cheat… He put my life in jeopardy. So now it’s deeper than boxing with me.”
Amid the speculations surrounding whether Ryan Garcia really cheated, the May 22 examination of his B-Sample will prove, once and for all, whether he is at fault. In case Garcia does test negative this time, Haney’s comments on that would be interesting to say the least, especially since Garcia has accused Haney of shady stuff because of Haney’s close relations with Victor Conte. Do you think Ryan Garcia will test positive again?
