Matchroom Boxing’s chairman Barry Hearn revealed that the trilogy bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder might not happen. Citing financial reasons, Hearn said that promoters could lose millions if they go ahead with the bout, and given the current crisis it is something they can’t afford.
The heavyweight titans first faced each other back in December 2018, with the fight resulting in a draw. The rematch, however, was a completely different story.
Fury dominated Wilder from the very first round, with Wilder’s team subsequently throwing in the towel to save him from further punishment.

“I can’t see Tyson Fury fighting Deontay Wilder. The reason being, this is all pre-COVID don’t forget, they’ve lost a fortune promoting Fury and Deontay Wilder in the past. They’ve now given them a new deal where they’ve got to fight again. That was based on values of 12 months ago when, in boxing, there was a lot of money out there and everyone was going crazy and spending big. I don’t think the people involved can actually afford to do Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder on the original terms that were set out, in today’s world,” said Barry Hearn to talksport.com
Another risk promoter’s face is in case Fury loses it could result in the loss of hundreds and millions as the Joshua fight will get canceled. promoters are better off going for the unification bout instead.
