Boxing fans witnessed a major upset as Mauricio Lara vanquished Josh Warrington via TKO in the 9 round of their headlining clash. Although Lara entered the ring as an underdog before the unbeaten Warrington, he departed with a big win.

But standing on the other side, Josh Warrington had to pay the price of his inactivity. A bunch of boxers have already shed their opinion on the fight. While some have ridiculed Warrington’s long lay off, others supported him.

WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, blamed COVID-19 for Warrington’s loss. While the pandemic outbreak forced the entire sport to lock up for several months, Fury claimed it to be a reason behind the boxer’s inactivity. He took to Twitter and justified the Brit’s recent defeat.

Meanwhile, Tony Bellew warned everyone to never demean any opponent. He hailed Lara as a “heavy-handed” fighter, but also showed some respect for Warrington’s name. That said, he predicted that the other super featherweights would avoid Mauricio Lara from this point.

Josh Taylor also saw the fight live. According to him, the referee should have called it off after Warrington’s first knockdown. Citing those heavy shots landed by Lara, Taylor also warned everyone from underestimating their opponents.

Both the pugilists looked sharp and promising in the initial stage. But, as the fight went deep, Lara picked up the pace. He planted some major shots on Warrington and made him feel the intensity. Although ‘The Leeds Warrior’ responded with action, they weren’t enough to infuse much damage.

Following a successful knockdown, Lara sealed the fight in his favor in the 9 round via stoppage. Now, Josh Warrington would look to make a quick return and avoid ring-rust that may have played a huge role in his defeat.
