With the ultimate heavyweight rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk inching closer, the tensions are rising. Back in May, Usyk shocked the boxing world when he knocked down Fury in the ninth round to win the fight via a split decision. It was a monumental upset, with Usyk dethroning the “Gypsy King” in what many considered a giant-killing moment. Despite both fighters remaining confident in their performances, Fury wasted no time in demanding a rematch, and Usyk, now the unified heavyweight champion, quickly agreed.
Since then, the Lancashire resident has been out for blood and we have seen various clips of him training on the internet. He is motivated for the December rematch like never before. For Fury, this fight is about more than just reclaiming his titles—it’s about restoring his pride. In a fiery message directed at Usyk, Fury warned the Ukrainian of the “wrath” that is coming his way in the rematch.

In preparation for the rematch, Fury has been training relentlessly, and he’s made it clear that mind games are part of his strategy. On Thursday, he posted a picture, from their Riyadh bout, on social media of him being punched by Usyk, along with a chilling caption. The former WBC heavyweight champion, declared, “You had your shot but couldn’t finish the job! mistake! now your about to feel the wrath of A menace!” This was in direct reference to the ninth-round knockdown that many felt would have ended in a knockout had the referee not intervened and given Fury a standing eight count. A few seconds after the referee’s intervention, the bell rang, thus saving Tyson Fury from a knockout loss to Usyk.

Furthermore, Fury targeted a few others in the post, including Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas and promoter Alexander Krassyuk. In a series of aggressive statements, Fury made it clear that anyone aligned with Usyk is now an enemy, before promising to reclaim his place as the unified heavyweight champion for a third time. He added, “F**k @usykaa f**k @klimasmanagement f**k @alex.krassyuk & if your down with usyk then f**k you2! Gypsy king 2024 coming for you! dec21 is mine me against the world incoming 3x heavyweight champ!”
For those that still haven’t figured it out, Tyson Fury was quoting the lines from Tupac‘s famous diss song, “Hit ‘Em Up”.
What’s your perspective on:
Will Usyk's strategic blunder be his downfall, or can he outsmart Fury in the rematch?
Have an interesting take?
It looks like Fury was successful in his attempt to get a reaction from Usyk. But the reaction by the unified heavyweight champion was maybe something that Fury was not expecting.

Oleksandr Usyk is down for some Tupac
While Fury’s outburst was intended to provoke, Usyk remained characteristically composed. Rather than engaging in a war of words, Usyk responded with a cool, collected message. He re-shared Fury’s post on his Instagram story, writing, “You’re really cool, my friend,” signaling that he’s unfazed by Fury’s attempt to stir the pot.
However, what was even cooler was the fact that Usyk had Tupac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” playing in the background of his Instagram Story. Usyk’s calm demeanor and refusal to be drawn into a trash-talking battle have only heightened the anticipation for the upcoming rematch. Fury’s strategy of psychological warfare seems to have failed to rattle the unified champion, who remains laser-focused on defending his titles.
