Before going into the fight, Anthony Joshua was the heavy favorite and very few people gave Daniel Dubois a real chance against the former champion. But we have seen far more shocking things in boxing and the 6’5 boxer proved it with his performance.
The Gypsy King was further asked about AJ’s performance, particularly his loss and his career hereafter. However, The Gypsy King brushed aside any doubts about AJ’s future in boxing. “Listen, it’s heavyweight boxing. It happens, doesn’t it? Happened to me. It can happen to anybody,” replied Fury as he exited the venue. Despite the upset loss, for AJ, there is always the rematch clause that he can go back to.

Tyson Fury’s arch-rival Oleksandr Usyk was not at all shocked by the result. He has firsthand experience in delivering upsets when he dealt a surprising loss to Tyson Fury back in May. For him, it was just another match that was won by the fighter who did it all right on fight night.

Talking about the fight, the result did not shock the unified heavyweight champion, as Usyk simply stated, “No, no, no. It’s boxing, I don’t know.” In a different interview, Usyk further explained the fight in detail and reflected on the reason why AJ faced defeat.

Usyk was disappointed by AJ’s footwork or lack thereof. According to the two-division undisputed champion, tilting the head back while exposing the chin leaves you open for further attacks. Instead, AJ should have fought more on the back foot. “You know, this position (leans back his head) is dangerous. If you want to do, do a step back, like this (shows defense on the backfoot),” stated the Ukrainian, while moving his feet to showcase the correct form.

This is the reason why Anthony Joshua kept getting caught with Dubois’ punches which came right after his stiff jab. Usyk did not further entertain the question regarding Dubois and AJ’s future, stating that it was not his job to talk about those matters. He was more focused on the Tyson Fury fight in December.
Talking about history, Dubois definitely delivered a performance of a lifetime, and people will remember this fight for a very long time. What do you think about Daniel Dubois’ performance? Was it as big of an upset as everyone thinks? Let us know your thoughts down below.
