Finally, the blockbuster is ready. While the script was hot to trot, the protagonists were not. After months of deliberation, they agreed to work together. A fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk already had the required ingredients to make it a box-office hit. The only thing missing was the date. Finally, that unsolved puzzle also breathed its last. On February 17, the WBC heavyweight champion will meet the unified heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia.

The winner will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999. The two boxers came face-to-face during the recently held Fury versus Francis Ngannou bout in Riyadh. Initially, it appeared that they would meet on December 23. However, the outcome of the fight reportedly led to a postponement. Now back in the limelight, while speaking to the media, Tyson Fury shared his views on the fight and, more significantly, what he planned to achieve.

When the reporter with Sky Sports asked ‘The Gypsy King’ how he envisioned the battle with the Ukrainian champion unfolding, the Mancunian replied, “Going to do the best I can, and I’m sure he’s going to do the best he can.” The reporter sought his views on Usyk’s heavyweight career thus far. Fury replied that the Usyk had beaten all the major British heavyweights, such as Derek Chisora, Anthony Joshua, and Daniel Dubois. Now he was on his way to establish his authority across Europe.

However, the only person who could prevent Usyk from doing so was himself. Tyson Fury said, “There’s only me who stands in the way of him and his total domination of Europe. He’s beat all the British guys, Chisora Joshua Dubois, and there’s only me. We’ll see if he can beat me, which I know he can’t; then there’ll be nothing standing in his way of total domination.

To many fans, it may still sound surreal. Both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk had a tentative fight scheduled for the early months of this year. However, after much back and forth, the talks eventually collapsed on account of disagreements.

Finally, a window of hope appeared by September this year. And the fight now appears certain. On the other hand, in place of Fury and Usyk, on December 23, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder would fight in Riyadh. But they won’t go against each other. Instead, they would fight a different set of opponents. However, chances are that if they both score victories, a meet-up could be in the works in 2024.

Tyson Fury received much criticism for his performance against Francis Ngannou. Hence, he would like to set the record straight for February 17. For the unified heavyweight champion, too, the ride hasn’t all been smooth, especially after the Daniel Dubois title defense controversy. Thus, when both champions enter the ring two months from now, there will be a lot of confidence and high spirits. However, there will also be a tinge of doubt, at least among the fans.
