Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson—Is this the fight boxing needs or a complete circus?

His father named him after ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. Then later, John Fury even called out the former heavyweight champion to everyone’s amusement. But as it appears, his son may not be too keen about going to that extent. ‘The Gypsy King’, rather expressed his excitement that the boxing great is getting back in the ring. Four years after he fought an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr., Tyson will enter a fight against Jake Paul. As most fans know, the fight with the YouTuber-turned-boxer was earlier scheduled for July 20. However, concern over his health following a medical emergency led to the fight’s postponement to a new date.

It seems that Tyson Fury’s Instagram Story got timed out. Nevertheless, the post featured a short and crisp message. “Can’t wait to see the living legend with boxing gloves again,” wrote ‘The Gypsy King’. The story, interlinked with a post from Most Valuable Promotions, featured a clip of Mike Tyson declaring, “If you think I’m too old for this fight, you need to come tell me in my face.” He was responding to Mike Majlak’s request. The Impaulsive co-host wanted the youngest heavyweight champion in history to address all the naysayers who still doubted his ability to fight a much younger opponent.

After some accounts revealed that he had been gradually getting back to his training regimen, fans saw Mike Tyson going full-blast at Jake Paul at a recent presser. A few days ago, he joined Logan Paul and Mike Majlak on the sets of ‘Impaulsive’. Naturally, the discussion centered around the upcoming fight on November 15. ‘Iron’ Mike had a grim caution to all those who still entertained doubts about a 58-year-old Tyson facing a crossover boxer, 30 years his junior. Incidentally, a month after the Paul-Tyson fight, Tyson Fury will follow suit for the much-anticipated rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

The footage included some training sequences and comments from both the podcast and the press conference. “Hey, listen, soon as I catch this guy, it’s going to be running around, but soon as I catch this guy, it’s going to be totally over,” said a confident Mike Tyson at the presser. But the clip featured a response from ‘The Problem Child’ as well.

The Ohioan highlighted how, despite the way some of his opponents often take a dig at him, the fact remains that all of them eventually end up knocked out. Hence, come November 15, and the history will repeat itself, he insisted. In the podcast, talking about the matter, ‘Iron’ Mike highlighted that the fact that separates him from Paul’s earlier opponents is that none of them appeared concerned about him. However, he, on the other hand, is quite afraid of what ‘The Problem Child’ could do to him.

Ever since it was announced, the Tyson-Paul fight has faced some intense scrutiny. Perhaps, apart from the sheer difference in their age, many feel Tyson’s ring inactivity also poses a major challenge. After fighting Tommy Fury in February last year, Paul went back to face yet another former UFC fighter, Nate Diaz. However, the following two fights happened against boxers. But the critics were quick to point out how both André August and Ryan Bourland were 35-year-old fighters who were away from boxing for quite some time.

Then, following the postponement of the earlier scheduled Tyson fight, Paul squared off against bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry. Despite these concerns, Jake Paul’s close associate and Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian pointed out that the fight makes all the more sense ‘because of age’.

As the fight draws nearer, fans and critics alike are speculating on the outcome. Who is your pick for the win on November 15? Let us know in the comments below.
