If you haven’t heard, the much-anticipated Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight has been pushed to May 18th. The postponement of the coveted fight comes in the light of the WBC champion, Fury incurring a brutal cut above his eye during a sparring session. While pictures of the injury have emerged on the internet, fans have chimed in with their own thoughts on the injury and its nature.
On the 17th of February, WBA, WBO, and IBF titlist Oleksandr Usyk was meant to confront Fury in a Saudi clash, at the end of which, either of them would emerge undisputed, marking the first time in the four-belt era for the heavyweight division. With just days left for the gong to herald the fight, it was called off, with its promoter, Turki Alalshikh, confirming the new date. Now, fans have remained relentless in reminding Fury that the reason the fight has been postponed is all because of him.

After his fight against his Ukrainian counterpart fell apart, Fury flew back to the United Kingdom, where his family awaited him. Today, on his Instagram, the 35-year-old fighter posted a story talking about his life back home. Tagging his wife, he also noted, “Back to reality today.” While he went on to explain what his routine looked like, one particular aspect stood out. The stitches he got on his left eyebrow. Boxing insider, Michael Benson, posted a screengrab of the story on his X.
A huge sect of the boxing community has questioned if the Lancashire-based fighter got the injury deliberately to dodge his in-ring altercation with Usyk. In defense, while speaking to Ariel Helwani, he noted, “Why would I not want to fight for the biggest payday of my life, and put 10 weeks into a training camp?” While Usyk just smiled, his manager. Egis Klimas expressed on his behalf. He remarked, “Maybe when you want to get cut, you’re going to get cut.” Klimas added, “Because he didn’t want to fight with Usyk. He’s scared.”
Doubling down on these suggestions, fans failed to sympathize with Fury for an injury that has kept him from undertaking the most crucial fight of his career.
