WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and his team contracted coronavirus just a few days before the scheduled trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder on July 24. While the fight date had to be postponed till October 9, several people belittled Fury and accused him of being careless about the medical protocols.

A few days after the reports of his Covid-19 test came positive, Fury was even spotted interacting and clicking pictures with fans. This led to severe online backlash. However, the undefeated champion connected with Mail Sport and revealed why he clicked pictures with his fans.

Tyson Fury said, “I took the advice from the best doctors in America. Everything we did was above board. In fact I went beyond their advice. I stayed isolated for two or three more days than their maximum recommendation.”

“I took the pictures because I was so pleased to be out in the sunshine. Waking up every morning to bright, hot weather has been vital to stabilising my mental health recovery. I’m relieved and grateful that all of us have come through OK during this terrible time when so many people are dying.”

Wilder now has more days to prepare for the third meeting. On the flip side, Tyson Fury will have to recover completely from the deadly virus before he can resume training.
