Conquers a legend, mental health issues

Wladimir Klitschko had dominated the boxing scene for years. When Fury and Klitschko faced off against each other, Fury made it look like just another day at work.

What followed was a long lay off. Uncertain of his future, Fury went on a hiatus. He got entangled in the world of vices. Fury entered the world of drugs and depression.

Fury was a shadow of himself. Being excessively overweight, he was on the verge of committing suicide. It felt like the Gypsy King was lost forever. However, it was not over yet.

Fury made his return to the ring in June 2018. After a few tune-up bouts, he took on the WBC heavyweight champion of the world, Deontay Wilder. Although the majority of the fight was dominated by Fury, the two knockdowns by Wilder swayed the judges’ decision. The bout ended in a controversial draw.

However, Fury did not give up on his dream. He continued boxing and had some masterclass performances against Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin. Wallin opened up a nasty cut over Fury’s eye but Fury continued to box and won via a unanimous decision.

The Gypsy King Reclaims his throne

Fury and Wilder collided once again. The duo faced each other on 22 February 2020. Fury came in heavier than usual. Many believe that it helped Fury deliver some extra power in his punches.

From bell to bell, Fury bullied Wilder. This time he did not leave it in the hands of the judges. With his relentless forward pressure, Fury was able to hit Wilder with heavy shots and even knocked him down multiple times.

Eventually, the bout was stopped in the seventh round when Deontay Wilder’s corner threw in the towel. Tyson Fury was crowned as the new WBC heavyweight champion of the world. He has now held all major titles in boxing.

His win over Deontay Wilder sent waves across the boxing world. Recently, Fury ranked #6 in the Transitional Boxing Rankings’ pound-for-pound list. He sits right under Oleksandr Usyk who is currently #5 on the list.

With a record of 30 wins and losses, nobody can deny that Fury is one of the best boxers on the planet.

As of now, it looks like a trilogy fight between Wilder and Fury is inevitable. Wilder has activated his rematch clause which grants him an immediate rematch against Fury. No doubt the third fight will be an interesting one but fans and pundits believe that Fury has nothing left to prove against Wilder.

Many believe that a unification bout with Anthony Joshua is the right matchup for Fury. Joshua vs Fury will be a huge fight for British fans. Joshua has the power as well as the skills to beat Fury. A victory over Joshua will solidify Tyson Fury as the greatest boxer of this generation.
