After overcoming adversity, Alexander Povetkin stunned the world with a brutal knockout of Dillian Whyte. The Russian fighter is now the interim WBC heavyweight champion.
Whyte’s loss came as a surprise to many fans. He looked amazing in the first four rounds. “The Body Snatcher” even scored two knockdowns in the fourth round.
However, just when we thought Dillian Whyte would dominate Alexander Povetkin, the latter landed an uppercut from hell and put Whyte’s lights out. The ten count was not needed as Whyte was flatlined. When he woke up, he did not know where he was.

Dillian hadn’t lost a bout since 2016. The British boxer had amassed an eleven-fight win streak and a record of 27-1. However, tonight’s loss will be his second professional defeat; his record now stands at 27-2. That means, his dreams of fighting Tyson Fury may not materialize soon. Does this imply that Povetkin is the new mandatory challenger for Fury’s belt?
No! As per Lance Pugmire, Povetkin does not hold the same mandatory status as Whyte. Therefore, if Fury gets through Deontay Wilder, he is clear to fight Anthony Joshua. And he won’t have to go through Povetkin.

Sickening for @DillianWhyte tonight he has come through so much adversity in his career only for this to happen.Criminal the way he was treated as mandatory challenger for the World Title all this time.

Dillian Whyte waited over 1,000 days for a WBC title shot and it was doubtful it would materialize early next year, either, with Fury-Joshua more likely if Tyson wins. Now, none of it matters #WhytePovetkin
