Devin Haney‘s reputation as a fighter has taken a massive hit. All it took was three knockdowns on the night of April 20th. Haney’s defensive and calculated approach to boxing was no match for Ryan Garcia’s fast hands, who dominated on the night. However, ‘The Dream’ was handed a get-out-of-jail-free card following Ryan Garcia’s PED scandal. Could “a billionth of a gram range” Ostarine have had that much of a difference in Haney’s loss? Or, was he well and truly outclassed by Garcia?
Going by recent developments, even Garcia’s PED usage couldn’t save the brand Haney. The damage has already been done! His mandatory WBC title defense fight against Sandor Martin had a lone bid of only $2.42 million by Top Rank. Haney’s own promoter Eddie Hearn and his Matchroom Boxing decided not to place any bids for the fight.
With that being said, a boxing commentator with a popular YouTube channel “ShowBizz The Adult” has given the reasoning for the former undisputed lightweight champion’s fall from grace. He claimed that the lack of “right attitude” from Haney following the Garcia fight was the reason for the imminent decline in his financial earnings and his pull in the professional boxing circuit.

Lest you forget, Devin Haney initially refused to have a rematch with ‘The Flash’ when reports about Garcia’s doping scandal were initially making the rounds. “I’m not too interested in it um, you know during the buildup we’ve seen a lot of interesting things from him, you know. We seen his character, we seen the guy cheat, we see the type of person that he is. I don’t see myself ever getting back in the ring” he had told ESPN.
Was it the lack of grit and determination on his part to avoid a rematch? Although, Haney changed his tune recently by saying, “Once this suspension is over @RyanGarcialet’s run it back”, “ShowBizz The Adult” feels the initial reluctance was a dead giveaway of his intention not to fight Garcia. “Devin Haney, with the right attitude, people would have responded better. ‘Oh he cheated me, I wanted blood’,” the Youtuber said, pointing out that an immediate rematch request from ‘The Dream’ would have raised his esteem in the eyes of the boxing fans. The analyst used two words that could come back to haunt Haney, “No rematch”.
To build his case, the boxing analyst pointed out two fighters who immediately triggered the rematch clause, and showed the warrior spirit after suffering a brutal loss.
Is the fear of failure pulling Devin Haney down?

First in line was Deontay Wilder who rematched Tyson Fury on October 9, 2021, after losing his WBC belt in their second fight. The result was similar to the second fight between them, ending in a brutal KO loss for Wilder. But the ‘Bronze Bomber’ showed heart in the last chapter of the trilogy fight and went out on his shield. Pointing the very fact out, the analyst claimed, “Like Wilder the respect for Wilder shot up, he wanted blood, got his a** whooped that last fight, knocked out nasty, but the respect for him went up.”
Next, he alluded to the Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr. match last year where the latter faced a humiliating defeat. Spence Jr was knocked down twice before the ninth-round TKO. Subsequently, ‘The Truth’ immediately triggered the rematch clause to fight Crawford. Unfortunately, a fresh cataract surgery spoiled the plans for a rematch. Most importantly, Spence didn’t come up with any excuses for losing the fight.
Pointing it out, ShowBizz The Adult stated, “How about Errol Spence, ‘Run it back gang’, and Spence has a real excuse. I know the excuse. I’ve been begging the man to say what it was but I mean Errol Spence is like ‘Run it back gang’… ‘At the end of the day, no matter what, I got my a** whooped’. ‘Run it back, gang’. ‘We’ll see at 154’.”

However, Haney now has a completely different outlook following the controversy. On X, he wrote, “Ima take some time.. spend some of my money.. travel the world & I’ll b back in two years after Ryan suspension & we can fight again.”
