Recently, Canelo Alvarez was spotted with HE Turki Alalshikh at the Ring Magazine awards in London, which many saw as a hopeful sign for the long-anticipated fight. Despite Terence Crawford’s repeated calls for a matchup, Alvarez had remained hesitant. When asked directly about the possibility, he reportedly stated that a hefty purse would be necessary for the fight to happen. A subsequent public fallout with the head of Riyadh Season led some to believe the bout might never take place.

However, recent reports indicate that talks are progressing, raising hopes that this dream fight could become a reality. Fans’ reactions to these updates show just how eagerly they are anticipating this potential showdown. However, the one fight that was also the talk of the town was the fight between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez. To fight Benavidez, the Mexican boxer reportedly demanded a $200 million purse. It now seems that Jose Benavidez Sr knows exactly why the fight might not happen. He also shared his honest opinion on the potential Crawford vs. Alvarez fight.

While speaking to Sean Zittel, Benavidez Sr said, “I don’t think Crawford could beat Canelo. Crawford’s a little guy… To be honest, I don’t really care about that fight. It’s a fight that it’s a circus, you know. We know who’s going to win, you know. I mean but anything can happen in the ring. Maybe Canelo can bend his knee or break a hand doesn’t make sense.” It seems Benavidez Sr. is skeptical of a Terence Crawford win. Like many others, their weight disparity is a very probable reason Jose Benavidez Sr believes there is a little chance Bud can win the bout.

The host then asked him whether he thought Alvarez would still fight Benavidez some day in the future. The veteran trainer was quick to respond and said, “No, well it’s even worse, you know. He would not take a fight at 68, at 175, there’s no way he would take a fight with David Benavidez because he knows. He’s asking for $200 million. What does that tell you? The guy is scared.”
