When Canelo Alvarez walked to the T-Mobile Arena this past Saturday, he knew he was putting on a special show for the fans. He came out all guns blazing, swayed the fans with his powerful punches, and gave them a flavor of trash-talking, as he toyed with Edgar Berlanga. But the challenger also didn’t back down. The event turned out to be exactly according to fans’ expectations, and as a result, it pulled huge numbers.
That’s not it. Everything came together neatly, with main card fights putting on a good show and the occasion of the Mexican Independence Day weekend. It was no surprise when rumors started floating that Alvarez vs. Berlanga sold 750k PPVs and racked up $22 million in gate revenue.

Interestingly, Alvarez, 34, had pulled close to 550k PPVs in his last fight with Jaime Munguia. With the flavor of Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry added to this fight with Berlanga 27, it produced better numbers. The fans took to the comment section and shared their candid views on these numbers.
Fans laud Berlanga for a promotional masterclass
One fan took a jibe at Oscar De La Hoya, who had blasted the Alvarez vs. Berlanga card as “robbery.” They declared, “I know @OscarDeLaHoya crying somewhere in a corner.” Instead of attending the boxing event, the promoter attended the UFC 306-Noche UFC, which irked many boxing fans.

A user wondered whether Berlanga would get his due for promoting the card. They wondered, “So we arent going to Credit Berlanga promoting for none of this?” Berlanga’s scathing and aggressive remarks in press conferences and his flair added to the charm of the event.
Someone believed if the Mexican champion fought Terence Crawford, then any record would be subject to fall. They noted, “If he fights Bud I think that’ll break any record canelo has.” ‘Bud’ has been chasing a fight with Alvarez for a while now. But both haven’t come to terms.
A comment admitted how few didn’t think Berlanga could be a draw. The comment read, “So Berlanga can draw too, I didn’t expect that.” Berlanga’s heavy punches and his knack for knockouts had worked in his favor, and his zeal and trash-talking during the fight buildup attracted more traction.

Lastly, a fan issued comical advice to Gervonta Davis, asking him to get Mexican fans to hate him for generating better PPV numbers. They said, “Tank needs to get Mexicans to hate him enough to pay to see him lose if he wants to do similar numbers 😂.” Notably, ‘Tank’s last fight with Frank Martin could only do 350,000 PPV buys.
