Last year, the boxing world desperately waited for the official announcement of the Shakur Stevenson vs. Gervonta Davis bout. However, despite the duo fighting only once last year and having the whole of 2024 almost free, the fight never materialized. Davis’ retirement plans may have dimmed further possibilities.
However, it may not be over yet. Recently, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh claimed that he is ready to hash out his differences with Tank in order to facilitate the potential fight against Shakur Stevenson. Following that, on the recent episode of A Safe Place Podcast, the Baltimore native also revealed his condition to make the dream fight a reality. As expected, it won’t be cheap.

Gervonta Davis remains firm on his demand
While Gervonta Davis is focused on his upcoming WBA lightweight title defense against Lamont Roach on March 1, fans are waiting for his next move. With many fighters ready to challenge the knockout artist, the name of Shakur Stevenson remains on top. However, with Tank’s estranged relationship with the Riyadh Season head and Stevenson’s and Matchroom’s close working relationship with them, the fight seems like a distant dream.

Furthermore, even though His Excellency is ready to settle the beef, it looks like he has to pay a lot for that. During the interview, the WBA lightweight champion claimed that he “(sees) what’s going on,” and is aware of the immense amount of money the Saudi Arabian sports entity is throwing at fighters to get his way. So, as long as people are getting paid, “so now give me two or four, or three Ferraris,” demanded Gervonta Davis, setting down his condition to do the deal.

For him, “If not, ain’t no point of me going over there. Y’all got the money to do it,” he added. There is no doubt that Gervonta Davis would want to make the most of his partnership with Turki Alalshikh since everyone is being paid well. So, it seems, His Excellency would have to shell out millions of dollars worth in Ferraris just to get Tank to agree to a fight with them. Because his overall demand to make the fight is much higher.
Eddie Hearn hopeful for a resolution
A few weeks ago, Matchroom head honcho Eddie Hearn revealed a thought-out plan for Shakur in 2025. According to him, the “plan for Shakur Stevenson is Floyd Schofield, Williams Zepeda, and Gervonta Davis. That’s in 2025… that fight (against Gervonta) will be one of the biggest in the world.”

While the Newark native is all set to defend his WBC lightweight title against Floyd Schoefield, Hearn’s plans have faced a major obstacle as Gervonta Davis wants at least $100 million for the fight. As expected, the promoter believes that it is an absurd amount but given the potential of the fight and with the help of HE Turki Alalshikh, he is ready to negotiate a middle ground wherein the deal is profitable for all involved. The Matchroom head wants the fight to happen as it will be “for supremacy at 135 pounds.” Furthermore, he strongly believes in his fighter’s chances and hopes it will be a defining year for him.
While the demand by Gervonta Davis sounds absurd, we know that His Excellency is ready to pay an immense amount for something he wants to see. The question is, does he consider the clash between Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson worth what Tank is demanding? We will have to wait a while for that answer.
