Former lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko stood tall in his return to the sport after beating Jamaine Ortiz. Lomachenko won the bout via unanimous decision as the judges scored the match 115-113, 116-112, and 117-111, all in favor of the Ukrainian. However, despite the scorecard, the match was much closer than what it reflected.

From the opening bell, Ortiz took the center of the ring and was very aggressive. His use of a consistent jab stood out as he dictated the round, also opening a cut in Lomachenko’s eyes. Moreover, with confidence at this point, Ortiz came out even more aggressively in the second period.
Vasiliy Lomachenko with the UD victory over Jamaine Ortiz via scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111. Ortiz, who was a major underdog, impressed, particularly over the first half, but Loma closed strong to move onto a potential fight with undisputed lightweight champ Devin Haney.

However, the former champion would adjust his rhythm in the latter stages of the fight and move according to Ortiz’s pace. As the 10th round approached, the Puerto Rican seemed to be on tired legs. Lomachenko took advantage of this as he chased down Ortiz in the championship rounds and secured the victory.
This was not all, as fans were sent into a frenzy after this as they reacted to Lomachenko’s UD win.

Another fan claimed that although he deserved the win, the scorecard was too one-sided.
deserved win but 117-111 is hilarious

One fan even refuted the claim that Ortiz won the fight. He stated while it was a close fight Lomachenko easily won at least 7 of the 12 rounds.
All these clowns saying ortiz got robbed lmao. Worst case is 7-5 Loma, and most people had it 8-4 or 7-5 Loma. Gotta say tho, 117-111 is pretty sus.

One fan claimed that Lomachenko won but criticized the scorecard. However, he added that Ortiz let the final rounds slip away.
Loma won 115-113 but 117-111 is terrible ortiz let them last 3 rounds go mental breakdown

However, one fan claimed that Lomachenko was now having a hard time closing distance with his jab. According to him, the likes of Devin Haney could beat him in his current state.
Loma struggling to close the distance on decent jabbers who are bigger than him, especially early on. Haney has by far the best jab in the division. First time I actually think Haney beats him.

Another fan called the fight ‘complete bulls**t’ and wanted Lomachenko to stay away from the likes of Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson.
Complete bullshit, and I'm a big fan of Loma's, he gotta stay far away from Devin, Tank and Shakur if we keeping it real https://t.co/OCuYjPUNuw

The fans seemed to agree that this was somewhat of a mediocre showing by the former champion. However, his 10-month hiatus from the sport needs to be taken into consideration while judging his performance. Despite that, the major consensus was that Lomachenko will certainly not fare well against Haney at this point and needed a few warm-up fights before challenging the undisputed champion.
