Can Mike Tyson's legendary power still intimidate Jake Paul, or is age finally catching up?

“58 is old, and he’s probably gonna get tired,” former ONE Welterweight Champion Ben Askren predicted when talking about this year’s most anticipated fight—Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul. And that’s the exact sentiment which has prevailed throughout the community. However, Mike Tyson has seemed to shut down all naysayers. And all it took was a single Instagram post. But before we get to that part…

‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ was supposed to square off against the YouTuber-turned-boxer on July 20, before a medical emergency—that further raised doubts about Tyson—led to the bout being postponed. After per a recent interview by the veteran boxer himself, “Coming here from Miami on the plane, I went to the bathroom, and I threw up blood. Next thing I know I’m on the floor and I was defecating tar…So I came (to the hospital), they said I had a big ulcer, two and a half inches, it was bleeding. All my friends were calling me like I’m dying.” The veteran reportedly lost over 25 pounds before he recovered.

Couple that with Jake Paul’s statement, and there was no doubt that the 27-year-old was definitely going to win.“Mikey Mikey, if you can last more than four rounds with me, I’ll give you an extra $5 million,” Paul had challenged in early October.

But does it really matter that Tyson’s nearing sixty? Ever the professional, Tyson has been training rigorously, a photo of which he posted on November 8 on Instagram, setting aside any concerns. At the sprawling Mike Tyson Boxing Club, ‘Iron’ Mike looked and charged up for action as two associates joined him in the photograph. “Ripped and ready,” the caption read, perfectly summarizing the boxing phenom’s superior physique. FanDuel lists Jake Paul  as the -270 favorite to win, while his opponent is the +210 underdog.

For the unversed: The highly anticipated fight will take place on November 15 at the  AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (the home of NFL’s Dallas Cowboys). So, where can you watch it? Firstly, Netflix has the exclusive broadcasting rights to the live event, so a subscription will be needed. However, as per USA Today, bars and restaurants with DirectTV have also been instructed to air the full fight card. The full event will begin at 8 p.m ET, though the Ring Walk timings are yet to be announced.

As for the prize purse, Jake Paul confirmed the figure in a August 18 press conference by saying, “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend.” Tyson, on the other hand, will be making around $20 million, which was seemingly confirmed by Jimmel Kimmel when he had asked, “I know you’re making a lot of money … at least $20 million or something like that,” which Iron Mike didn’t deny.

Having said that, fans are definitely ecstatic at seeing their favorite boxer back in form as…

Boxing community in awe of Tyson

Understandably, Milan Tyson was proud of her father’s accomplishment. “The champ is here🥊,” she said. However, for Mike Perry, it was an opportunity to taunt. Teasing former opponent Jake Paul, the bare-knuckle fighter highlighted how ‘Iron’ Mike had beefed up. He said, “That shirts an XL, and it looks like if I’m wearing a large or medium, @jakepaul, you in trouble, bro 😂”

Visibly impressed by Mike Tyson‘s ripped physique, the next fan paid tribute to the former heavyweight champion as the best knockout expert in boxing. “Mighty Mike Tyson, The Greatest One Punch Knockout Artist Ever. 👊” Interestingly, Tyson’s moniker comes after the boxer defeated Michael Spinks in 1988 in 91 seconds, then knocked out Marvis Frazier in the first round in 1986, defeated Carl ‘The Truth’ Williams in 93 seconds in 1989, among multiple other instances.

Echoing similar views, one social media user urged Tyson to give a sound drubbing to Jake Paul. They said, “My God, Iron Mike looks incredible. Give him hell, Mike!” This fan imagined Jake Paul’s plight if Mike Tyson decided to enter the ring as he did in his prime, walking in to hit numbers by late rap icons Tupac Shakur or DMX. “If Tyson come out listening to 2pac in all black with no socks… Jake gone die,” they said. Tupac and Mike Tyson were reportedly very close friends, and Tyson even walked to the song ‘Road to Glory’—that Tupac had specifically written for the boxer—for his 1996 fight with British heavyweight Frank Bruno.

Tyson had also used the song ‘Ambitionz Az a Ridah’ by the late American rapper in some of his fights

Having said that, one user pointed out how Tyson’s physique stood out in comparison to the persons standing beside him: “Tyson’s physique is almost better than the two 30-year-olds beside him, lol.” Truly, for a 58-year-old man who has been dealing with a few medical issues, showing up in such a fantastic shape is a remarkable achievement.

Despite his years away from the ring, Mike Tyson has always stayed fighting fit. Nevertheless, the fight with Jake Paul is a ten-round affair, with each round lasting 2 minutes. So, going into war against an active fighter 30 years his junior calls for top-level fitness. Fans are eagerly waiting to see one of the year’s most talked-about fights.
