Can crossover boxing truly resolve celebrity feuds, or is it just a cash grab?

The fine lines between celebrities and boxers have faded away with the advent of crossover boxing. It has given some A-listers a chance to expand their footprint or, just simply, settle their beefs. On top of that, it’s a healthy business opportunity. That was the leading idea behind Misfits Boxing. And as one of the founders of the crossover boxing promotion, Mams Taylor has now pitched for a boxing match between Trippie Redd and Tekashi 6ix9ine.

The duo of Trippie Redd and 6ix9ine, which dates back to the Soundcloud clout days, had initially worked together and even produced some successful songs, such as ‘Poles1469′. But it all changed somewhere around November 2017 when Trippie Redd took to his Instagram handle and claimed that the Brooklyn native was behind his attack in a New York hotel. The two have gone back and forth since then on social media handles.

Recently Trippie Redd collaborated with KSI on his song, ‘Thick of It’. So, when KSI’s manager, Mams Taylor appeared on ‘Fred Talks Fighting,’ the host pointed out to him that Trippie Redd had posted an Instagram story with a boxing gloves emoji. They then interpreted it as an indication of a coming fight.

The Misfits Boxing co-president picked up on it and declared, “I think Trippie Redd and 6ix9ine have to fight at some point. I think that’ll be great. They got old beef that needs squashing.”

With Misfits Boxing gaining prominence in recent years and crossover boxing becoming a norm, the speculations about a boxing fight between Trippie Redd and Tekashi 6ix9ine might not be too far removed from reality. However, Trippie Redd might have other things on his table right now, especially given how his latest song is making waves on the internet. For his collaboration with KSI on ‘Thick of It,’ the rapper has received flak from fans and critics alike. It even prompted Conor McGregor to jump into the action.

The Irishman didn’t like the song and expressly vented out his frustration with it. That’s not all. He called out KSI and proposed to fight him. In a conversation with Misfits Boxing, McGregor, 36, declared, Let’s go! I’ll fight him for that b—–t song he released alone. I’ll fight him for that f—- song alone.”

Interestingly, the former UFC champion has previously admitted to entertaining the idea of picking up a fight with the likes of the Paul brothers and KSI. I’m sure at some stage, you know, we’ll go through all of these guys. [Tommy] Fury called me out today. It’s just like another little world, isn’t it? I’m open for it, I’ll never say no,” he had revealed earlier this year.

Notably, McGregor, at 22-6, has been away from any combat sports action since he suffered a leg injury at UFC 264. But he could be open to a crossover fight, a matchup with more money and less risk.
