It took some time. But Mike Tyson eventually came full circle on boxing when he decided to take up a training assignment. It’s an altogether different fact that his pupil is not a seasoned boxer but one about to debut on October 28. More so, at the opposite corner stands the unbeaten Heavyweight boxing champion of the world. But given their recent appearances, both the teacher and the student appear unperturbed. They continue their mission to sling one of the greatest upsets in combat sports history.
Mike Tyson and Francis Ngannou met several reporters on the media day. They took the time to gather various facets of the duo’s training. Throughout, both parties interacted freely. Tyson fielded a question from a reporter that hankered back to famous and much-loved fictional characters. In many ways, his response relayed his vision—what he’d planned for the former UFC Heavyweight champion.

Top Rank shared a short video showcasing Francis Ngannou’s media day. One of the promotion representatives shared a few details. He mentioned the presence of Tyson and how the fight promised to be the most significant ‘Combat Sports Event of the Year.’
Soon, the Cameroonian-French mixed martial artist made his entry. He straightaway met Mike Tyson, who had been waiting for him. Probably watching the two living legends together sparked off a reporter calling to mind two of DC Comics’ most famous creations: Batman and Robin. So he immediately addressed Tyson, “Dynamic Duo?” The youngest Heavyweight boxing champion reconfirmed whether the reporter meant him and ‘The Predator.’
When the reporter acknowledged, Tyson replied, “I don’t know. I like to make him the Black Knight alone.” The former world champion seems pretty determined to turn around Ngannou. Later, one of the reporters asked whether Ngannou had the strength to end Tyson Fury‘s campaign. The former champion replied that the mixed martial arts legend could derail any fighter, including Fury.

It was a rather unexpected move when it became known that Mike Tyson would train Francis Ngannou against Tyson Fury. Striking remains an integral part of mixed martial arts and the octagon. However, a different ballgame exists regarding squared circles with padded gloves. Ngannou enjoys a solid reputation as a hitter, but probably much more was needed when it became clear that he would take on Tyson Fury. Nobody knows the sport better than ‘Iron’ Tyson, but whether his trainee can apply those lessons inside the ring, time alone will tell.
