Though it might be a lightweight puzzle, it seems to be looming heavily over fans and experts. Who is Gervonta Davis going to fight next? Following his sensational victory over Ryan Garcia, over a year filled with personal challenges, the WBA champion and one of boxing’s most familiar faces returned in his trademark style. On June 15, he stopped Frank Martin in his first title defense as a full champion.
Ever since, there have been multiple talks of potential matchups for the Baltimorean. Initially, Vasyl Lomachenko‘s name appeared. However, citing personal reasons, the IBF lightweight champion decided not to proceed further with the negotiations. Subsequently, the discourse shifted to Shakur Stevenson. The initiative reportedly took off positively. But news eventually came that the WBC champion would defend his title against Joe Cordina. So the mystery surrounding ‘Tank’ Davis’s next opponent continued. But not any longer, at least partially. A few hints on the champion’s next fixture appear to have come out.

So who is that lightweight contender from Robert Garcia‘s stable to challenge ‘Tank Davis? Some time ago, several news reports suggested a potential match with Jose Valenzuela. After working with Jose Benavidez Sr., ‘El Rayo’ joined the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy. Under Garcia, he finally fulfilled his dream of becoming a world champion when he defeated the hard-hitting Isaac Cruz on the Terence Crawford–Israil Madrimov card.

But the problem is ‘El Rayo’ moved up to the light welterweight after losses to Edwin De Los Santos and Chris Colbert. So it’s not clear whether he will scale down or, for that matter, Davis will move up for a faceoff. Nevertheless, the rumors came to rest when reports came that the savvy Southpaw was taking a break to spend time with family. He could be expected only by 2025 for a rerun with Cruz. Or, as other updates suggested, a big blockbuster with Ryan Garcia?

However, the issue is that he already has a fight scheduled for November 2 against Jesus Antonio Perez Campos. So, who will it be then to take on the ‘Tank’?
