Legendary boxer Mike Tyson’s daughter, Milan Tyson, is a talented tennis player and also an avid sports fan herself. Hence, it’s no surprise that she took to social media today to congratulate 27-year-old Gabby Thomas, who won gold in the women’s 200-meter race at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Tuesday night. But that’s not all. Apparently, Thomas is her idol now.
Thomas crossed the finish line at the Stade de France Stadium, packed with 77,000 people in 21.83 seconds, leaving behind Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who came in at 22.08 seconds, and Team USA’s Brittany Brown at 22.20 seconds. The Harvard graduate was never really in danger of losing her gold medal, as she maintained the lead from start to finish.

This latest gold will add to her earlier 200-meter bronze medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as well as a silver from the 4X100 relay. The 27-year-old is expected to run in the 4X100 rally in Paris as well, and after winning, she even expressed her desire to compete in the 4X400 relay for her country later in the Olympics.
Regardless, Milan, who has previously idealized tennis greats like Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic, hopped on her Instagram story to name Gabby Thomas, as her new idol. “Guys Harvard graduate works 10ha a week at a hospital helping people with hypertension AND Olympic Gold medalist simply my idol… @gabbythomas gods favorite fr,” Milan Tyson wrote.
However, this doesn’t mean Milan has left behind her love for her other idol, the four-time Olympic gold medalist Serena Williams, who was a torchbearer at the Olympics opening ceremony this year. Here’s what happened when Milan Tyson met Williams.

When Milan Tyson met Serena Williams at the 2016 BNP Paribas Open, it was a huge deal for the then-seven-year-old who was totally obsessed with tennis. In an interview, she couldn’t contain her excitement, revealing, “[I have met] both of them, I met Serena yesterday and Djokovic today.” Milan also joked about beating her dad in tennis, calling him a “terrible tennis player” in good fun.

During their chat, Serena complimented Milan’s hair but didn’t dish out any tennis tips. Milan said, “She told me she liked my hair, but she didn’t give me any advice.” Even so, Milan’s love for Serena was clear as day. She talked about her big dreams of becoming a tennis pro herself and winning the BNP Paribas Open by 2030.
As it turns out, as Milan Tyson grew and started branching out, the number of people she looks up to has grown alongside. While she is not ready to abandon her dream of tennis, track and field star Gabby Thomas seems to have caught her eye for now. What do you think about her idol? Did you watch the race on Tuesday?
