Devin Haney is in high gear. In a month’s time, the unified Lightweight champion will test his skills against the heavy-hitting WBC Light Welterweight title holder, Regis Prograis. Though a clear favorite against the incumbent, ‘The Dream’ is moving heaven and earth to ensure the first victory in a new division. After all, that paves the way for the next stage of his campaign to become a two-division undisputed champion.

He has nearly 2.5 million followers on Instagram. Early today, they were treated to training footage of him running uphill. Haney shared how, at ten thousand feet, he finds himself at peace. Avoiding shortcuts is something he has done many times. He also thanked the skeptics, for it was they who pushed him to work harder every day. He said, “I’m at the point where it’s bigger than any opponent; it’s me batting with greatness! Allah gives me strength; I am nothing without him. Dec 9th, victory! InshaAllah.

Ahead, Champion!

According to this fan, it will be a complete and utter humiliation for Regis Prograis in the ring. He has absolutely no footwork, which counts as the worst they’ve ever seen from a top-tier fighter, let alone a champion: “Totally outboxing Regis and embarrassing him. Calling it, he has zero footwork. Some of the worst I [have] ever seen for a high-level fighter, especially [a] champion.

Following the champion for a long time, this fan shared how he has had countless arguments with others over Haney’s credentials as a worthy boxer: “Been riding with you, champ, arguing with these clowns at work about your greatness.” The following fan appears to find it fascinating that “The Dream” is not a member of any particular boxing organization: “I like the fact that he is his own man in boxing and not in these little boxing circles.

But a few cynics also found their way into the comments box. For instance, this user urged Devin Haney to stop beating around the bush. Instead of fighting some of the tough boxers in the 135-pound division, he took the easy way by frog-leaping to the Light Welterweight division: “You took the easy route when you ran to 140; stop the cap.” Then, probably, a Prograis fan highlighted it as the sort of thing one says when they know that they are going to lose. They mentioned how, before losing to David Benavidez, Calet Plant ran the same route: “Sounds like the speech you give when you know you [are] about to lose! Let’s go, @regisprograis. Caleb Plant did that same run before he lost to Benevidez. #bigbear.

Devin Haney: Maneuvering through divisions

It would be the first divisional jump for Devin Haney. The California-born fighter reached the heights of the Lightweight division, becoming its undisputed champion last year. After two successful title defenses, he was all but set to face the challenger, Shakur Stevenson. But the latter, unhappy with the split share offered, backed out. Subsequently, he decided to make the move to 140 pounds. However, for that, he had to vacate the WBC belt, thus removing him as the undisputed champion. Per the recent update, he is WBC’s ‘champion in recess.’ So should he decide to return to 135 pounds, then he would have to take on the winner of the upcoming fight between Shakur Stevenson and Edwin De Los Santos.
