Is Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua the fight of the decade, or just another hype train?

We are well past the halfway mark in 2024, and some memorable fights entertained us. But as they say, good things take time; they are only getting better. After witnessing Gervonta Davis do a backflip after dismantling Frank Martin, Ryan Garcia floors Devin Haney with his sheer power, and Oleksandr Usyk tame Tyson Fury, there is more to come. And Canelo Alvarez will start the proceedings as September hits, and Mexico will plunge into its Independence Day celebrations.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga: battle for supremacy at 168

After brushing aside Jaime Munguia this May, the Mexican champion is back, and he is taking on two opponents on the same night—Edgar Berlanga and the UFC, which is staging its first event a street away at the Sphere. While the IBF decided to remove Alvarez from the strap, the allure of the champion hasn’t faded a bit.

The event, on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena, is expected to rack up good business because of the selling point of the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry and the fact that Alvarez, 34, still holds the rights to title, the face of boxing. The undercard will mark the return of veteran Caleb Plant. Fans could also watch ‘Rolly’ Romero in action live, making it a stacked bill. They might not catch a breather as, a week later, they have another high-octane event.

Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua: skirmish to get to the unification route

The heavyweight division is at a tipping point where every fight now will carry implications for the title picture. Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua find themselves on the cusp of a dream fight, where they could become the next undisputed champion. But for that to happen, they have to face each other, and the winner will pick up the IBF gold as a prize.

The two will go blow-for-blow on September 21, with the iconic Wembley on the backdrop. In addition, HE Turki Alalshikh is bankrolling the card, and the fans will expect nothing short of a grand event. The likes of Anthony Cacace and Willy Hutchinson also find themselves on the undercard, promising fireworks to the fans. After that, the September madness will build into a legacy-setting fight.

Injuries derailed the encounter, having all the marbles in 175 up for grabs. Artur Beterbiev had to pull out of the fight scheduled in June because of a ruptured meniscus in training. But Dmitry Bivol didn’t wait and put on a show for the fans, as he racked up his first knockout win against Malik Zinad since 2018.

The fans don’t have to wait any longer, as the two will clash on October 12 in Saudi Arabia. The undercard also has some mouthwatering fights, as Shakur Stevenson makes his first PPV debut and defends his WBC championship against Joe Cordina. It remains to be seen how the card fares on numbers and how much the fans have to shell out to buy the PPV. But if they don’t want to spend a cent and want to live through a feeling of nostalgia, then they can wait until November 15.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul

It’s a mismatch on paper, despite the legendary status of Mike Tyson. While Jake Paul has emerged as a formidable force in combat sports in recent years, ‘Iron Mike’ still carries the daunting presence and devastating power behind his punches. However, the health concerns for Tyson, 58, have overshadowed the fight’s hype.

Despite that, it’s a rare opportunity for the current generation, which has only heard or watched the highlights of Tyson’s fights to witness the great man in action. Meanwhile, hardcore boxing fans might have one last chance to cherish visuals of Tyson’s exploding punches and heavy-handed blows.

Additionally, the rematch between Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will add to the event’s charm. It all unfolds on November 15, and the fans can stream it for free on Netflix. After that, we’ll reach the last blockbuster fight of 2024, and what’s a better way to end it than with a rematch between two heavyweights?

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury: settling the scores

Fury, 36, took a while to realize the fact that Usyk, 37, had defeated him. And it was a close call. The heavyweights will run it back on December 21, as they will fight it out for glory and legacy in Saudi Arabia. While the Ukrainian boxer has already solidified his legacy by becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion this century, Fury has another shot at it.

Revenge will motivate the British fighter, as he looks to bounce back from his first defeat. It could be another high-paced, tactical bout where the margin of error is quite limited. But for fans, it will be a treat of a fight.
