It all began when Tommy Fury, hailing from a lineage of fighters, laid bare his thoughts about the potential showdown with Viddal Riley. Disregarding Riley’s impressive knockout win over Anees Taj, Fury didn’t hesitate to draw a clear line in the boxing ring sand. “No disrespect but Viddal’s fighting a lot lower than me. Say what you want about opposition but I’m fighting on a world championship level,” Fury voiced, in an interview with SkySports.
In the same breath, he touted his pay-per-view appeal, boasting about fighting big names and doing millions of buys. His dismissive remarks about Viddal Riley went further, “He’s not a big enough draw. At the end of the day, Viddal, who is he outside of boxing? He’s not really anybody. He’s got no global pulling power. He can’t do any pay-per-views”. It was a clear, even if provocative, declaration of his perceived dominance over Viddal, both inside and outside the ring.
Stirring up even more controversy, Fury, unabashedly, shifted the focus to another internet sensation-turned-boxer, expressing his interest in fighting KSI instead. This surprising pivot added another layer of complexity to the already tumultuous situation
Viddal Riley’s sharp rebuttal
In a befitting response to Fury’s comments, Viddal Riley, a rising star of boxing, had some choice words to share. After his victorious match against Anees Taj at York Hall in London, Riley addressed Fury’s criticism in his own candid style.

“If he doesn’t want to fight, just say he doesn’t want to fight,” he rebutted, brushing off Fury’s comments about his ‘lower level‘ fights and lack of pay-per-view appeal. He urged Fury to embrace his status as a ‘crossover boxer‘. He also subtly accused him of hypocrisy for blending celebrity fights and traditional boxing without openly acknowledging it.

Riley further made his point by emphasizing his own pull in the boxing realm. “Go check the views on any of his fights when he’s fighting in that realm, and then check mine, and I’ve stayed in this realm and, I would say I have more pull than he does,” he challenged. In an audacious claim, he expressed confidence that Anees Taj, would knock out Tommy Fury, fueling the dispute further. This sharp rebuttal from Riley not only defended his position but also threw back the challenge at Fury, intensifying their rivalry.
