Is Sandy Ryan's demand for a rematch with Mikaela Mayer justified or just a publicity stunt?

Sandy Ryan is yet to make peace with what happened to her this past weekend. A trip to Madison Square Garden became her nightmare, as she was on the receiving end of a paint attack. That’s not it. The British boxer also saw her posters plastered all over the place, and she ended the worst night of her professional career by losing her gold strap. However, neither her spirit faded away nor the zeal to fight, as she demands to run it back with Mikaela Mayer.

Ryan, 31, turned to her X handle and updated her fans about the ongoing investigation by the NYPD. She also disclosed to the fans that her team received “threatening, anonymous messages,” which forced her to return to the UK. In addition, the former welterweight champion addressed the “pathetic” smear campaign against her. Her statement also included a jibe at Mayer, 34, who she believed had a role to play.

Ryan, at 7-2-1, called out Mayer, at 20-2, for her lack of a “definitive statement” and then pitched the idea of an immediate rematch. The reason? She believed she had done enough to get her hand raised in the night.

The Derby native declared, “In light of everything that’s happened, I believe that an immediate rematch should be ordered. I have dedicated my life to this sport and am very grateful for the opportunities it has given me. Boxing deserves so much more than this kind of thuggery. I can guarantee that this will not break me and makes me more determined than ever to leave my mark in this sport over years to come.”

While Ryan is eager to take back her title and prove her credentials in the face of adversity, Mayer is unable to understand how the suspicion has fallen on her. In a conversation with SkySports, the LA native had admitted, “I had no idea, I was shocked.” What’s more? Her team has come up with a statement.
