Kazakhstani boxer and former unified Middleweight champion of the world Gennady Golovkin has officially relinquished his WBA middleweight title, the only title he had been possessing since he gave up his IBF title in February. Recently, the WBA ordered a mandatory bout between Gennady Golovkin and Erislandy Lara and likewise issued a date for the purse bid. However, as reported by BoxingScene, the attorney of Gennady Golovkin has informed the WBA that while ‘GGG’ “remains committed to fighting again“, he has not made up his mind regarding his next appearance in the ring.
In light of the above statement, John Hornewer, Golovkin’s attorney has declared that ‘GGG’ is vacating his WBA middleweight title in boxing. WBA made the encounter between Lara and ‘GGG’ mandatory, but now that the Kazakhstani has withdrawn and relinquished, Lara has occupied the status of a “full world champion” in this division of boxing.

Gennady Golovkin, who fought his last against Canelo Alvarez last year on September 17, made his professional debut in 2006. It has been nearly two decades since Golovkin embraced the pro ring. In addition, ‘GGG’ is 40, and despite his commitment to fighting, it merits an admission that he has entered an age when retirement in the sport is necessary. As talkSPORT correspondent Michael Benson tweeted the news, several people from the boxing community reacted to it. According to, Nolan Villalobos, since Golovkin has now given up his two remaining titles in boxing, it is very likely that he is retiring.

He’s nearly 41. How can he get motivated to chase Lara around the ring for 12 rounds?? He’s one of the best middleweights of all time.

Finally, curtis_p believes that Golovkin has “rinsed DAZN for every penny”. According to them, “It’s time to bow out.”
Time to retire now, you’ve rinsed DAZN for every penny.. aided in their huge financial losses. It’s time to bow out. You’ve done well.
