There’s no rivalry quite like the one between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn. Their fathers competed against each other during their time, and now, they have passed that friction down to their sons. The pair is expected to have their much-anticipated clash on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But before the fight, legendary Mike Tyson has a truth bomb for the duo.

Benn and Eubank Jr. were supposed to fight back in October 2022 at the O2 Arena, but ‘The Destroyer’ tested positive for the banned substance clomifene in two voluntary drug tests conducted by VADA. This resulted in the fight being called off, as Benn spent most of his time on the sidelines of the sport. After a lengthy process of getting his license back, Benn is finally expected to put their generational rivalry to rest.

Amid the building anticipation for the all-English boxing match, Mike Tyson appeared in an interview with Men’s Health. The former heavyweight champion shared his connection to both fighters, highlighting that those are the two fighters who have caught his attention in recent days. However, he also felt the truth was people outside of the United Kingdom didn’t really know them.

“Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn are both very exciting fighters,” Tyson told Men’s Health. “I don’t know America would be interested because I don’t think they’re internationally known.” While Tyson’s words rang true for the most part, the pair recently went viral on social media after Eubank Jr. decided to smash an egg on Benn’s face during their press conference.

Meanwhile, Benn’s promoter sees a lot of similarities between Conor Benn and Mike Tyson.

Eddie Hearn claims Conor Benn is like Mike Tyson

According to a 2019 report from talkSport, Eddie Hearn likened welterweight star Conor Benn to none other than Mike Tyson, praising his explosive style and growing popularity. Following Benn’s knockout win over Chris van Heerden, Hearn said, “Conor Benn comes out from the first round like a rottweiler, and that’s why he’s so entertaining.”

The Matchroom boss added, “He fights like – and I know this is a big statement – he fights like, I won’t say the ability yet, but the style of Mike Tyson, where he comes out, and he just wants to take people’s heads off.” Hearn believes Benn is becoming a major draw in British boxing and represents the sport’s future.

“When you look at UK posterboys… Conor Benn is a young man,” he said. “He’s getting better and better, but he needs those tough fights to progress.” With veterans like Amir Khan and Kell Brook avoiding a clash, Hearn says, “It’s a massive backhanded compliment to Benn.”

That said, even though Mike Tyson seems to be fond of Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr., he believes the wider public in the States remains oblivious to the two men. What do you think about Tyson’s claims?
