If not for his fight against Canelo Alvarez, Callum ‘Mundo’ Smith would have a perfect record. Smith is about to fight against Artur Beterbiev this weekend. As his chance at a world title comes again, he thinks back to his fight against Alvarez. In the press conference for the Beterbiev vs. Smith fight, the Englishman talks about a lot of things, ranging from his mindset ahead of the fight to his training camp.

Beterbiev is a fierce fighter, he has managed to knock out every fighter he has fought against. Smith also talks of learning from his only career loss. Let us look at what he has changed since 2020.

On being asked about his loss against Alvarez, Smith states, “To start, I need to be better. I felt I needed to make, changes after it, changed my training setup, changed my weight division. I just changed my mindset and outlook on the sport,” talking of all the various changes he had made. Smith states how he has changed his goals and his primary goal is to become the world champion in a new weight division.

Smith then talks about all the work he has put in over the years. He proceeds to say, “ My next fight is for three world titles and like I said earlier it’s an opportunity I don’t plan on slip up.” showing confidence in his words. If Smith does manage to beat Beterbiev this weekend, he will be back on top as a world champion. But does Smith actually believe that he can overpower the champion?

While Smith does acknowledge that Beterbiev is a tough opponent, he believes that he can do it. Smith said, “ I believe in myself, I always have done and I believe the best version of me beats anyone in the world and I fully stand by that.” confidently. Smith also talked about how he has improved over the last couple of years.

Smith vows to hurt Beterbiev. He mentioned, “He’s a very good fighter, his record speaks for itself, but he’s not invincible, he can be hit and he can be hurt, we’ve seen that.” Whether Smith can really do it or not, only time will tell. With vows to put the first loss on the champion’s record, Smith heads into this fight.
