IBF super middleweight champion William Scull is staring down the barrel of the biggest fight of his career against former undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Despite his undefeated record, the German-origin boxer is a massive underdog going into the fight on May 03 at The Venue Riyadh Season.
This will mark Canelo’s first fight in his four-fight deal with the architect of the Riyadh Season, Turki Alalshikh. Canelo is expected to unify all four belts to make the second fight in their contract against Terence Crawford an undisputed affair. However, the latest update on Scull’s camp suggests he is determined to derail all the plans.

Canelo Alvarez is not overlooking Scull
With less than two weeks left in the fight, Fight Hub TV shared a clip of Scull training for the fight. In the clip, ‘El Indomable’ can be seen walking on a treadmill. “@scullwilliam is going beast mode prepping for the biggest fight of his life!” Fight Hub TV captioned the post. Despite the odds favoring Scull, Canelo isn’t looking at the fight as a cake walk.

“He has that Cuban school. It’s very complicated. He knows how to use the ring, he has a very good jab, he has qualities,” Canelo told Fight Hype recently. It’s worth noting that Scull was the IBF mandatory challenger for ‘Cinnamon’ in 2024, but the Mexican superstar opted to bid farewell to the belt instead.
Now that Scull has the IBF belt, Canelo seems to have given the 32-year-old the deserved respect. “He’s a world champion, and I want to be undisputed champion again, two-time undisputed champion,” Canelo said. Regardless, since Scull’s latest training footage was shared on Instagram, things seem to have gone awry.

William Scull is mistaken for Jermall Charlo
With the Canelo-Scull fight excitement in the air, fans quickly flocked to the post. One user suggested that Scull looked like Jermall Charlo in the clip. “Almost thought this was Charlo ngl,” the user wrote. Interestingly, Canelo has defeated his brother Jermell Charlo in September 2023.
Even this next user seemed to have made the same mistake. “I thought that was Jermall Charlo for a second,” the user commented. While there are some talks of Jermall’s return, there is no concrete evidence of the same.

Meanwhile, this user seems to have been left confused because of the post’s caption. “Walking on the treadmill is going beast mode?” the user asked. It’s likely an emphasis on what Scull plans to do on fight night.

Another user predicted that Scull’s efforts are going to be fruitless. “Doing all this to get dropped once and outboxed for 12 rounds is wild,” the user wrote. This has seemingly become the go-to strategy for Alvarez.

Someone else wished for something else, watching Scull’s clip. “Hopefully he wins so Canelo can retire already 😩,” the user wrote. Counting the four fights with Alalshikh, Canelo doesn’t have many more left in the tank.
That said, it appears people have mistaken William Scull for Jermell Charlo. Scull will have to beat or put on a hell of a fight for the people to remember him. Did you think it was Charlo?
