On January 22, 1988, Mike Tyson successfully defended his three titles, WBA, WBC, and IBF, collectively for a second time against Lary Holmes. A month later, he married model and actress Robin Givens. Unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last long and ended in a nasty divorce in October 1989. The pair, after staying married for only seven months, had an unprecedented interview with a trailblazing and pioneering newswoman. In the interview, they discussed their marital problems at length.

Such was the convincing power and influence Barbara Walters wielded over the celebrities she interviewed. Award-winning American TV host and journalist Barbara Jill Walters hosted several shows on television, including Today, ABC Evening News, 20/20, and The View. She became well-known for her skillful and engaging interviewing style. The eminent journalist was active right from when her career began in 1951 until her retirement in 2015. Sadly she passed away yesterday at her home aged 93.

Barbara Walters; a trailblazing journalist and celebrity interview guru

She interviewed some of the most prominent figures in politics and show business. At her peak, Barbara Walters became the highest-paid television journalist with annual earnings of $12 million.

The Daytime Emmy for outstanding talk show host was awarded to Walters first in 2003. Then she went on to win it again in 2009. In addition, she was nominated for several Primetime Emmy awards for her special programs. In 1975, she took home a Daytime Emmy for her work on ‘Today.’ Then again, in 1999, she and ABC’s coverage of the millennium’s arrival earned her a News and Documentary Emmy award.

Everyone agreed that the interview with Barbara Walters settled the issue for good. She had a steely resolve despite receiving criticisms for being too gentle. There’s no denying Walters did an excellent job of making the boundary between news and entertainment fuzzy.
