On May 7th, 2005, Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales squared off against one another with the WBC and WBO World Lightweight titles on the line. The two battled for 10 rounds displaying impressive skills till Jose Luis Castillo lost via TKO. With 2:35 on the clock, Castillo caught Corrales with a left hook and the latter went down spitting his mouthpiece. Corrales frequently wobbled and observed one shot after another from Castillo. With 2:03 on the clock, Corrales went down for the second time in that round. To quote the ringside commentator, an “excessive spitting of the mouthpiece” even caused Corrales a point loss in the ring.
Despite two swollen eyes and fatigue, Corrales urged to continue and fight. In a matter of a few seconds, he responded by throwing big shots including a left hook that stunned Castillo inside the ring. With only 57 seconds left on the clock, the referee intervened and called a stop to the contest crowning Corrales with the win. Two years after the fight, on May 7th, 2007, Corrales passed away in a tragic accident. After the video of this 10th round resurfaced, several fans engaged with it.
