While speaking to ProBox TV, the former boxer boldly asserted that Canelo’s rumored move to fight Munguía means he is ducking a fight with the winner of David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade. He went on to recollect the time when Canelo claimed he wouldn’t fight another Mexican fighter, suggesting Canelo was lying. “Let’s revisit the Canelo doesn’t want to fight a Mexican. I guess that’s out the window. When it’s the right Mexican, I guess he’ll fight him,” said Malignaggi.
Highlighting the hypocrisy in Canelo’s statements and actions, Malignaggi claimed that it’s the confirmation of everyone’s suspicion about Canelo avoiding a fight with Benavidez or Demetrius. “This kind of confirms the suspicions that everyone has had in that he doesn’t want to fight the winner of this fight,” said Malignaggi. He even claimed that boxers like Canelo would always put themselves before the sport of boxing. With that out of the way, when did Canelo say he doesn’t want to fight Mexicans?

“If it’s Zurdo, I don’t want to fight with Mexicans … I represent Mexico,” Alvarez told USA TODAY Sports.
