The bout between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou is drawing concerns in the sport. Fury is the current WBC heavyweight champion and was expected to face worthy contenders from his division. However, his next opponent,  Ngannou, is an MMA fighter and therefore many questioned his choice of opponent for the next fight.

In fact, the fight against Fury will be the first time Ngannou steps into the squared circle. On the contrary, Gary Logan, a former boxer and trainer is against the notion of Fury holding on to his belt without defending it for a long time. What is his opinion about the matchup? Let’s find out.

The fight between Fury and Ngannou would be lucrative for both combatants. And Logan can find justification for the fight for that reason. However, he does not think that personal interest should hamper the division. The belts should be on the line, he said.

In a panel hosted by Sky Sports Boxing, Logan stated, “If it was just like no title on the line, you do your thing. I think that’s bad enough. You should mandatory defending the title you have not defended for nearly 9 months now which is preposterous.”

Moreover, he is not against the bout taking place provided Fury let other boxers fight for the WBC title. He stated, “Had it been where you saying right, you guys fight for the WBC title I am going to make my money here with Nagnnou.”

This is not boxing benefiting boxing in anyways,” he added.

Not only does Logan think that this bout does not add value to the sport but also that it may do more harm than good.

In the same panel discussion, Logan states that this matchup is not appropriate as Ngannou is not a professional boxer. He pointed out that Ngannou has not made his boxing debut yet. He stated, “This is not good for boxing. Like he is defending a WBC title against a man, I am sorry look, Ngannou can’t box. He can punch but he cannot box.”

It is safe to say that just like many, Logan is not a fan of this match-up. That being said, the bout would garner attention from the public at large. What do you make of this entire controversy? Share with us your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
