Is Edgar Berlanga Jr. right to call out Teofimo Lopez, or is he overstepping his bounds?

Edgar Berlanga just suffered the first loss of his career against Canelo Alvarez last Saturday night in Las Vegas, in what turned out to be one of the more successful events in recent memory. However, it seems the Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican boxer has already found himself in another feud. Who might that be with?

That’s right—it’s none other than WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. Despite the significant weight difference making a fight between them highly unlikely, it hasn’t stopped Berlanga from butting heads with the 27-year-old Lopez, who, like Berlanga, also hails from Brooklyn.

Earlier today, ‘The Chosen One’ took to X, posting, “@TeofimoLopez you not from New York stop jacking NYC you was never here !!!! This my city homie.” While the reason behind Berlanga’s sudden callout of Lopez remains unclear, Lopez was recently honored with the New York State Fighter of the Year in the Big Apple. Whether that connection stirred up the tension between the two remains to be seen.

Lopez, meanwhile, was involved in his own confrontation with Terence Crawford during the Canelo vs. Berlanga event. Lopez had previously called out Crawford for a fight, even going as far as to claim that Crawford was too old to pursue a bout with Canelo. Adding fuel to the fire, Lopez also accused Crawford of only fighting injured opponents.

This, of course, didn’t sit well with Crawford, who confronted ‘The Takeover’ during the Las Vegas event. In a now-viral clip of the altercation, Crawford can be seen tapping Lopez’s head before being escorted to his designated seat. Meanwhile, Lopez has finally shed light on what sparked the clash with Crawford at ringside during the Canelo vs. Berlanga fight.

Teofimo Lopez has shed light on his recent altercation with Terence Crawford during the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga fight card in Las Vegas. Lopez, who currently holds a world title at 140 pounds, crossed paths with Crawford at ringside, and things quickly escalated. According to Lopez, the two exchanged stares before he directly asked Crawford, “When we gonna fight?”

Lopez described a tense encounter, with Crawford confronting his father, leading to a brief scuffle. Despite the heated exchange, Crawford’s camp, including coach Brian McIntyre, has consistently dismissed a fight with Lopez, calling it “not competitive.” Lopez, however, remains determined to face the pound-for-pound star, saying he wants to fight the best.
